I have a question about the reverse lockout function of the TCI Outlaw shifter. I want to know (from anyone with first hand knowledge) if the reverse lock out function needs to be momentarily tripped before moving into reverse from neutral or if it actually needs to be held forward with the other hand while moving the gear shift forward with the other. I been looking at a few YouTube Videos and I keep seeing it both ways. I called TCI and they said must be held with other hand i.e. cant work shifter with only one hand!!

I really like the look of this shifter but the whole double handed thing is a deal breaker.

Here the link to video that TCI states their shifter does not function like, so not sure who to believe.

See when he pushes the red lever then releases it and uses same hand to push shifter forward thats what I want...

another one with one handed operation:

This one shows the other way where the reveres lock out needs to be held with two hands.

Want to order this but need confirmation!!

I have one. You click it into position and then go from N to R. You do not have to hold it.

Also the cable it comes with might not work. I burnt my first one. The RMVB on these cars make the cable basically lay over the header tubes if you have long tubes.

I re ordered a 3" throw cable and really it should have been a 2.5" throw. It's a PITA to adjust right, took me 2 evenings to get the adjustment to work through all the gears.

My two cents worth. TCI does not seem to be Mopar 727 friendly. In there instructions they talk about the shift travel being too long for the 727. I have a TCI Diablo with a trans brake and a line lock button that just would not work with my reverse pattern manual valve body 727. I am back to the old B&M ratchet. Dave

Didnt the diablo have a rear cable exit option? Anyon else not able to get TCI to work.

I almost bought this shifter but after reading up on everything I decided on the PPP, it has all kinds of options depending on trans, valve body etc.

Yes, rear exit option. Not recommended for 727 because requires long cable. The materials and workmanship on this Diablo are fantastic. It's new, with a 1/2 '' hole drilled,by me, in the front of the body for entry on t=brake, l-lock, neutral safety switch. It has adaptor kits for GM 2,3,4 speed and Ford 3,4speed. I really battled this piece because I wanted it to work so bad. Dave

Yea the long throw for the Outlaw is lame. It's setup for a TH400 in the park position. So when adjust correctly the Park position kind of floats. You can tug the cable if you try to go all the way forward.

If you look closely at the gate pattern and the lines in the instructions, the Park for TH400 and 727 are way different, yet no detent for the 727. Hope this all makes sense... haha

The pattern for the Outlaw must be different. What I experienced was the third gear position would allow you to over pull and not return to second and first etc.. I had to study a GM manual to learn there was a small allen screw you removed and slid to another hole to switch to a reverse pattern. No mention of this in the 727 section.
I went to TCI site and used the Chat section three times to no avail. I then used there email Tech section twice and received no response. I then called the company on there tech line and spoke to a dude that could not answer my questions. He said he would find out and call back. I have an answer machine and never heard anything. Again this is a beautiful piece with fantastic workmanship and materials. But did not work with a reverse pattern 727. Sorry to be so winded.
There are no different gates for the different transmissions with this shifter. Dave

That's really not what I wanted to hear. I like the look of this shifter a lot. Guess the next best thing would be s Hurst Quarter Stick? Anyone have s bad experience with it on reverse manual VB.

Please understand my problems are with the new Diablo TCI shifter not the Outlaw. I also love the look of their products and the material and workmanship are over the top. Dave

SO does anyone have an OUTLAW Shifter that works on a Reverse Manual Valve Body 727?

I use a Hurst Quarter stick. I quite like it. I wrapped the cable with header wrap then 3M duct foil tape. The good stuff. Doesn’t look pretty but works great. Throw is good. Adjust cable for 3rd if it’s a reverse valve body like mine. No issues. Never missed a shift.

Pistol grip or ball?

Ball. I got a different ball with the button on the side instead of the top. More comfortable.
