Appraisal of 1969 Coronet Super Bee

My lovely soon to be ex-wife wants a share of my Coronets value and the appraiser came out yesterday to inspect my cars. He claims that the vin stamping on my 1969 Mr. Norms Coronet Super Bee engine block and radiator support are somewhat crooked and look possibly faked to pass it off as numbers matching. Also, he claimed the leaf sprig torque box is not welded (?) like all Super Bee's should be. This is a 383 four speed. I had it appraised 5-7 years ago and it was by a professional appraiser that only worked on Mopars and had a 1968 Coronet R/T and he never mentioned any of the things the new appraiser mentioned. The more the new guy is incorrect about it authenticity is better for me as it would lower the value of the Super Bee in the marital assets proceedings. Is he correct about the torque box and vin stamping? Thanks guys

Oh, also it has four leaf springs on the driver side and five on the passenger side that is not correct and swapped.

No 383 Super Bee would have come with torque boxes, so those were added at some point.

Yes. Not all stampings were 'perfect'.

Since this is a 69 and I haven't seen a picture of the stamping....

Are the typical milling hash marks still present? Point that out.

Show the inspector the pic of the GTX (RS stamping) and ask them if they would be more comfortable with yours looking like the picture. (FWIW..it's a bad restamp)

Does he not realize when these cars were built it was the 60' and 70's. Not uncommon for workers to be under the influence back then.

A standard 383 Bee will have the 213/213 rear spring set up.
A 383 with A31 or A36 axle package will have the 795/965 unequal rear spring set up like the Hemi and 440-6 cars.

Sorry to hear about your divorce. Help point out any other flaws to continue to lower the value. As mentioned, make sure you get half the value of that wedding ring. Maybe even tell her to call it a wash between the two.

VIN’s - They can be crooked as heck, transposed, forgotten, missing numbers.

This self proclaimed ‘mopar’ appraiser doesn’t know ****. Play stupid, let him call it fake if wants, give that to your ex and be done with it. Then if it matters to you and you need to, just have it redone in the future by a better appraiser.

Yes thank the guy for helping you identify this faked super bee and his value is half of reality.

As said above the springs are correct for A super bee with no axle pkg or HD suspension.

I had an appraiser say my 40,000 original mile car wasn’t worth any more that than 1 that had a hundred thousand miles on it with body work and non original engine. WTF is the matter with some of these so called appraisers. Kim

I ahve to check the fender tag for the axle numbers. Hopefully he appraises it low and I will get the reports in the next few days.

Sorry you're going thru a divorce! I have 2 under my belt and as stated, worth every penny in the end! Just sucks at the time. Keep your chin up, and 1 day at a time.

Ouch, and my biggest fear. I am just starting the process of divorce. My second. Luckily we are both agreeable about each taking what is ours. Selling the house, which is totally in my name and moving on. Let it appraise low. Or sell it to a friend for like $50. Then buy it back in a few months.

Illinois would get ya if you sold it too cheap to off load it.. I’ve heard guys get mauled by lawyers and lose it all and work them selves to death and live off ramen noodles and bologna . I wish you the best just remember they have the upper hand and in that hand are things besides your nuts.. I truly hate to hear it as a guy usually takes a bath.. Reconciling possible ? Try to save before signing the papers... just hate to see it happen to both parties in all honesty.
