I recently got a 8 3/4 to build it was out of a 73 imperial so I changed backing plates from 11 x 3" to 11 X 2.5" not having any drums at all to compare to here is my issue. I ordered new drums from Napa (of course they were special order) got them took em home opened them to paint them and thought they looked awful wide so i measured the machined surface on the inside where the shoes ride and it measures 3". I know that area should be a little larger than the show size but my question is are these size drums correct for 11 x 2.5" brakes? The only thing the geniuses at Napa could tell me is that they are listed in the computer as for 2.5" and that's it and they could order another pair to see if they were just packaged wrong. -Thanks

3" drums are pretty much 3" wide. I have two that I can lay my hands on easily and one is 3 1/8" and the other is 3 1/4" from the inside face to the very edge.

So the set they gave me is probably to wide then?

What application did you tell them to order for ?

If your backing plates are for 2.5 drums, then yeah, they are probably too wide but make sure by trying them on before getting rid of stuff. I sure wouldn't mind having 3" drums on anything and backing plates ain't all too hard to find.

A 70 charger when I looked up that vehicle online it listed as having the option for 2.5" drums

The reason I changed over to 2.5" was because apparently all the local auto parts stores don't carry 3" drums and the only plave I coukd find any was eBay as nos for 200 bucks a pop so at this point I'm kinda confused
