No... Ray Lewis did not stab him to death!

Being a Steelers guy, I've hated this jagoff all my life, but I don't want to speak too ill of the dead. So, this brief post will serve as my period of mourning for the late owner of the Clowns, I mean Browns, and the Ratbirds.

I drown the Browns every morning!

He sure left a LEGACY !
Only history will decide if it was "Positive" or "Negative"

This is old news he died Wed. morning... RIP Art Modell, he is still a human being & deserves the respect any other human being deserves, my condolences go out to his family friends & his team, no matter how much I dislike the Raven's or murders like Ray Lewis, Art Modell "the man" deserves respect, he was a leader in racial integration in professional football, if nothing else he will be remembered for that... Screw Cleveland they wouldn't help him what the team needed, to stay, after he took the team to Baltimore, they did all the stuff he was asking for in Cleveland with the expansion Browns, they didn't loose & they still suck.... JMHO

yup and will always most likely

Just remember this was the guy that complained when other owners wanted to move but when He did it was alright. I am from cleveland and talked to friends that had seasons passes from the 60s and the city was trying to work with him, so don't blame the city. It is really funny that after being in baltimore he had to sell the team. I always considered when baltimore won the super bowl that it was really the cleveland browns that won. Why do you think they made him leave the name and records in cleveland, no other team that moved had to do that ?:argue:

Who is this guy anyways :D

He owned the Cleveland Browns NFL team AND tried to pull a secret deal with Baltimore to move the team to Baltimore Md and become the Baltimore Ravens (in memory of Edgar Allen Poe's famous poem "the Raven", Poe, a resident of Baltimore) Art Modell did this just like Robert Irsay did to Baltimore in the MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT when he seceretly moved the Colts to Indianapolis. Literally breaking the "heart" of Baltimore and it's faithful fans.
BUT: The saving grace w/ the Cleveland Browns Franchise? They (Cleveland) were able to keep the Team Name, a final bit of justice against Art Modell.
Cleveland never forgave him just as Baltimore never forgave Robert Irsay.

Art Modell had an EGO like no other.

Paul Brown the coach who the team is named for butted heads with Art. They both had EGOS and Art fired coach Paul Brown. He is legendary in his own right in the NFL. Paul Brown ended up in Cincinnati where he lead the Bengal to a Championship. Guess he was still a good enough couch. Too bad Art's Ego got the better of him on that one.

Oh yeah. We had a Running Back named Jim Brown. Any one remember him? He was in England filming the movie Dirty Dozen and was not in training camp. Art sent a message. Quit the movie or your fired.
Jim Brown finished the movie. Another Art Modell Ego trip.

Art was touring the new Indians stadium. (prior both team shared the old Municipal Stadium) It was so freaking nice he got pissed off left and started negotiations to move rather then continue to work with the city for a new Football Stadium. The Indians got a baseball only stadium before his Browns got a Football only stadium and he was mad as a little boy who got his candy after his older brother.

Art wanted to will the team to his sons. He was in debt. He moved for a number of reasons. He finally sold the team and his sons will get the cash but not the team.
How did that work out for Art Modell. Sure he got his Super Bowl ring.
Who is to say it would have been in Cleveland if he had the integrity to keep the team in Cleveland.
His team he can do what he wants with it.
Not going to honor the man. Just respect his passing as any other person walking this earth.
Out Veterans/Police/Fire/Nurses deserve more honor and respect in death then and Ego manic businessman.

Now should I post this or not?

Hey I lived with the departed great Al Davis, as the owner of my favorite team, I know all the feeling your talking about, believe me....... RIP AL & ART, you guys can start your own football league in Heaven or Hell, wherever you both are.... 1959 Jim Brown references that's the year I was born, that's going back a ways 53 years....LOL...

I think the one name I've never heard outside of Pittsburgh is "yago". Myron Cope used to use it a lot to insult any player, coach, fan or anyone else he didn't like since it was a generic insult. :)
