Ashtray light

Anyone able to walk me through the ashtray light and how it works?

on my 70 it clips on ashtray and plugs in I think an orange 3 way plug that is hooked into the dimmer switch. light grounds itself to ashtray.

I believe it works with the instruments/radio lights. It's always on when those lights are on.

Should be on a orange 3 way pig tail. That orange is lighting harness. You will note that the pigtail for the ashtray is orange as well. Didn't read Daves post before I typed this sooo yea I agree with Dave.

So when the lights are on its always on? Or does it ground only when door is opened?

^ Yup. Powered up with the instrument lighting circuit.
