Atco Raceway Sold

Atco, NJ Wednesday December 19, 2012 –Atco Raceway was sold in its entirety to Mr. Len Capone Jr. of Berlin, New Jersey. The negotiation for the oldest continually operating drag strip on the East Coast took over 16 months and has concluded on a Win light for all…the track will continue to operate as it has in the past.

The Capone families are very familiar with the racing scene and have a great passion for the sport of drag racing. Len Capone Sr. a racer himself who was present for the 1960 opening day of Atco Raceway worked in the tech department on Memorial Day weekend. Len Capone Jr. started as a sportsman racer and is very well known for his Top Alcohol Funny Car “The Bear” that raced the strip in the late 80’s and 90’s.

Joe Sway has been retained as Director of Operations and is under exclusive contract for 2013 and 2014 with 3-1 year options to follow.

The 2013 tentative schedule will be posted on the web site AtcoRaceway.com mid January. There are no major changes to the race schedule for 2013~a couple of new races will be added but for the most part you will see our lineup has not changed.

Atco Raceway would like to thank everyone for their participation in the 2012 race season. We are positive that the continued support of all racers, fans and patrons will continue to make this a racing destination and the #1 track on the East Coast.

I saw that on facebook yesterday I'm glad to hear it's going to stay basically the same. Can't wait to get my motor in for next years season.

Nice, seeing as you're familiar with how their tech is, are they stick on the rules specifically on test and tune nights? I know every time we took my dads mustang all they did was ask how much nos, what he planned on running and wrote his number on the windshield. But being that I fall under more rules than he did I'm just wondering.

My junk has always flew past tech.As long as your car is safe and you don't go much faster than your legal for there should be no problem.
If some thing ain't safe, they will bust your shoes, but that's at any track.

Phew. When I read the title of the thread I figured another one bit the dust.

yeah, no sh*t.

glad to hear the new owners plan on keepin' it open. seems like there's a track closing every other week.

BTW, was that an XK in the first pic??

Lenny Capone from Joisey? how much more mafia canya get ? im glad its staying open !

I don't know if any of you knew but Island Dragway in Northern NJ closed it's doors for the last time this fall.

I'm glad to see it's remaning open & basically the same opperation... It would be a shame to lose another great track, we've lost our fair share out here too....
