welcome I love the 70 GTX, beautiful car

welcome,70 is about my favorite year on any b-body.

Man, that is one GREAT looking '70!!

Another Newbie.....

Beautiful car! I have a 1970 Roadrunner, but it is not yet restored. The 1970 cars are my favorite!

I notice that it has 3 point shoulder belts both front and rear - they are obviously aftermarket.

Do you mind posting some pictures of the attachment points for the retractors (behind the front seats and for the rear belts). I added modern seat belts to my Son's 73 Roadrunner, and I am curious how these fit.

Thanks in advance!

Hawk

cheers for the comments guys. Hawk, I'll get some pix up during the week. New AU compliant seatbelts are a registration requirement here in my AU state [unfortunately] I have quite a collection of nice orig seatbelt sets for a few GM and Mopars

Heres some pix of some past B bodys and my T/A that I have owned for 8yrs or so.

My old H code 68 Charger
69 runner
my old blue 70 Chall vert [ notice anything 'weird about the 2 verts?]
My old 70 runner at the 2009 Spring Fling

cheers Dave

Dave,

Wow, thanks for the pics, you have (and had) some fantastic cars!

Compliant seat belts are not required here is Pennsylvania, but my lovely wife, who tolerates all this car craziness (and accepted me giving my son my 73 Roadrunner), has requested 3 point belts. It is a small price to pay, but I like to install them "professionally" so they do not look out of place - so I am just trying to get ideas, and your car is the first I have seen with rear seat shoulder belts.

Keep the shiny side up!

Hawk

Love the FK5 '70 and welcome to the site!

Hers some pix for you Hawk..

For the retractor, I once would weld up a short bracket with a fastening nut also welded to it for mounting the retractor. I would then weld this to the floor, near where the radio and rear harness feeds. Making the braket is all done because the retractor must be 90deg and inline with the top mount to work nicely.
Anyways , that was getting too hard[!], so I now use a 90deg bracket, even though this facilitates drilling a hole through the floor to bolt it in. It does save alot of work.
You can see I have made use of the outside front factory bolt to mount the steel end plate. This was fine, but I now use the same bolt for the end plate as the retractor as it keeps the overall look cleaner and makes getting in n out the rear seat less hassle for pax. I also order the belts with a 150mm 'drop', you can see it hanging from the hoodliner that feeds the belt, this eases the uncomfortable shoulder/neck rub
You can use all other factory holes for mounting, eg the orig in the hoodlining and the orig inside fronts. For the rears, there will be 3 or 4 factory pressed 1/4" holes in the parcel tray. I used these as guides and driled a little larger for the rear shoulder belts.
I have quite a few nice orig.sets of black seatbelts for 68-9-70 Ply/Dodge B's so if any of you guys are looking for good orig sets, I will part with them!

cheers Dave
