So I sold my Roadrunner this weekend for respectable money considering it's condition and documentation.
Since I have been feverishly looking all weekend, I have come to the conclusion that people are nuts!
A 72 Cuda completely restored asking $60k ...
A 73 Cuda not #'s modified for $55k (no hemi or anything)...
A #4 Original Demon for $40k (#4 being generous)...
I've come to this conclusion...When the Auctions come (BJ, Mecum, etc.) It's like the MLB showing the world what pro player's salary guide...
Then you get the guy playing for the local semi-pro team asking for the same salary.
Rant over

E-bodies and Chargers...........$$$$$$$$$$ The rest are losing ground.

I have a very presentable driver quality 69 Sport Sat convert 383 with almost every part rebuilt or new. Cars close to being done. Body is near perfect with no plastic. Now honestly whats that car worth 25-30 grand. I refuse to pay double that for a RR or GTX in similar condition just to have a bigger engine and some letters on the side and front. These people that get caught up in this i have to have a RR or GTX thats original and think there cars are worth a fortune because of televised auctions are going to be very disappointed when they dont get offers for there cars near what they see on TV

I've seen a price drop for everything other than 68-70 chargers and e bodies but I gotta tell you I don't care. I'm in it for the love not the money. I have 25,000 in my 66 charger and it's not done. I could never get that for it even done. Don't care.

Now the 70 charger I'm building well if that ever sold it would be a money maker

Yeah your telling me ... I must find a 68 Charger before I leave this planet ...but I can't get close .. and the price for a "project"(basket case) is insane ...I always hear "do you know what these are worth when there finished" ...like to wack them in their head..owned a 68' for 9 years back in the day need to find a way to get one again

I've always found that people are willing to overpay for the basket case project, and be cheap as can be for a finished product.

i'm not sure I understand...can you elaborate?
In my experience I've seen people pay way too much for a project that requires a full restoration. On the flip side it seems that selling a finished restoration you can have a hard time just recouping the investment. The past Barrett Jackson I saw many cars sell in the first 3 days that the owners were probably ready to slit their wrists.

we're neighbors...surprised I never saw your car out and about!

To counter act some lame comments about
have a few letters on your car, effecting it's perceived value

a Big Block Real RR GTX Charger Super Bee etc. etc. etc.
will always be worth more money than a base model car

put the 2 side by side exact same condition the
Big Block actual musclecars will be worth nearly 2 times the value...

Clones, tributes, recreations, street-beast
"what ever you want to call them",
can sometimes even bring more value than a base car...
Clones & tributes have their place in the market just like the
quality built Resto-Mods & pro-Touring cars do...
It's all about condition & if it was popular when it was originally sold
than it with always be worth more...

The auctions have their place, it's a captive audience, there to buy,
with money burning a hole in their wallets, to "actually buy & spend",
not just tire kickers like the other markets are...
The leaches/sponges in the other markets try to capitalize on the pricing
for quality or fully restored cars, think their rusty worn out POS is {no offense}
worth the same as the Auction cars are, when most the auction cars
are quality builds, with professional &/or quality paint jobs,
IMO it's a $20k-$50k + the value of the car to start...

It's a different market & animal...

The market is fickled, people are sometime clueless too,
some try to ride the wrong market, never sell either...

I see some stuff down in price & others are holding or rising...
I don't go by the auctions, that's different animal "usually"
IMO that is a different market/clientèle for the most part...

Apples & Oranges...

The OP is right people are crazy/insane thinking
that they can get the same prices for their cars...

Some of us buy and enjoy what we like. Others buy to chase the market.
When we mix the two kind of collectors together we will find endless divisions about what is best.

I don't like the auctions ..I watch because I love the cars, but these fools who watch and think their sitting on a pot of gold after watching, make it more difficult to find a reasonable seller of cars, projects or parts IMO

My car is worth a gazillion dollars 'cause I saw one just like it at Barrett-Jackson. Just 'cause there ain't no engine or transmission, the floor's rotted away, and the body's got more bondo in it than metal, don't mean nuthin' !! At least the skeletons of the seats are still there, and some o' the wires are still hangin' from the dash. A gazillion dollars... not a penny less.

Roger that. My '69 Road Runner is exactly what I was looking for. Almost identical to the first one 47 years ago. Wouldn't sell it for twice what I paid for it.

I bought my 69 hemi coronet in 1980. It's what I wanted when new but could not afford at the time.
The down side today is -I have what I want but it's value tends to make me feel like a caretaker of history and limits my enjoyment of the car that I have to play with.
I need to get over what others may think about how I should enjoy my car.

Thats true and still others wait until family obligations, bills, mortgages and what have you are paid and try and get back into what they enjoyed so many years earlier.
