Hi All,

Is anyone using an Autometer Fuel Gauge? I am attempting to use a Z-Series 73ohm-10ohm but I am not getting accurate fuel level readings.

What model of Autometer Fuel Gauge did you go with? Do you have a stock 73ohm-10ohm Mopar Fuel Sending Unit (new or old/original)?

I installed an Autometer Z-Series 73ohm-10ohm Fuel Gauge in my 66 Coronet because I didn't feel like fixing my in-dash unit. However, my fuel gauge readings with the Autometer are not correct. Starting off with a bone dry fuel tank: I put in 5 gallons of gas and that brought my gauge to just below the Empty line, adding another 5 gallons of gas brought up my gauge to just about the 1/4 full line. I have experience the same reading with two different sending units (new reproduction ones).

The resistance measurements between the two sending units are nearly identical.

I ran a ground from the body of the sending unit directly to the battery negative terminal to eliminate a bad ground. I also ran a fresh 18gauge wire from the sender to the gauge for trouble shooting. No luck either.

I'd like to get the Autometer to work.

Let me know what you think. I look forward to your reply.

Would it be wrong to assume that you now have an extra fuel sender now? If you do and you know it reads somewhat correctly, hook it up to the sender wire at the tank. (Don't forget to clip a ground wire on to it). Run the sender through it's arc and watch the gauge. It should at least give you an idea for accuracy on the gauge.

I am not sure if this is the problem but I am fairly sure your stock gauge sent 5V back through the fuel sending unit. If the AutoMeter is sending 12V back there it might be affecting it. Do you have a stock gauge to try and check the reading?

I have used the Equus aftermarket fuel gauges (Amazon) and found them to be fairly accurate. But it did burn up my sending unit after about a year. After a sending unit rebuild everything worked great again.

Actually sounds reasonably close... if I remember right your car has a 21 or 22 gal tank- there will always be some gas in the tank the pick-up wont get to. My 67 Satellite would go about 20 miles when the gauge read empty. But i agree with AZRC- check the voltage at the sending unit. Good Luck!
