I have a 69 coronet r/t with a 440, hooker headers, automatic. I have had dual flowmasters turned down at a 45 degree angle down and out towards tires for 20 plus years. It is ok on pavement and works great for blowing tire smoke everywhere during burnouts, but makes lots of dust in dirt parking lots and i dont like the constant heat blowing on inside of rear tires. What I want to do is stick with something that sounds like the flowmasters that i can exit just in front of the rear tire in an oval stainless nascar style just below rocker. I want to do it in 2 1/2 inch. Any advise, previous experience, pictures would be appreciated. Thanx, Jack.

Had it on a 69 and was too loud for me......I suggest running the exhaust all the way back to the rear bumper and keeping the mufflers you have

What works for me: TTI's. QTP cut-outs. DynoMax Superturbos. Mayhem on demand. No highway drone.

My 67 exits in front of the rear tires. 3" Flowmasters 2" super comp headers. Sounds quite mean from the 440 w/ .484 purple cam.

A long time ago, I had side exhaust with glasspacks on 383 RR. It was 2.25, coming off 4-1 headers, into glasspacks, then out in front of the rear tire. It was fun but brutally loud. Guess which ear has high frequency hearing loss.

Anyway, I have thought about having side exhaust Nascar style again, but a little more quiet. To do it with an oval muffler and proper clearance, I think you will need them with inlet and outlet on the same side, like an AAR Cuda. There are some Dynomax like that, and Flowmaster may have some like that.

Thanx to all who replied, I think i am going to try a set of mufflers with the inlet and outlet at the same end and get a set of exit ovals from stainless specialties. I hope it is not too loud, but nothing ventured, nothing gained. I remember the guy who built his own mufflers and did an awesome job, but i am definetely not that talented......or patient, I WANT IT NOW! Thank You.

I used to run my exh to dump in front of the rear as I did that on alot of my builds. But I can tell you that since I like to drive my 63 alot I decided I wanted to run the full exh all the way out the back of the car. So I bought the TTI mandrel bent 3" exh out to my rear bumpers and I am so glad I did. I love the sound at idle as its not to loud and it sounds louder when you lay into it hard and cruising is great as you dont get a headache from the exh noise and fumes coming out the side of the car. Just something to think about as I know I am very glad I went with the full factory posistioned exh with the pipes at 3". Good luck with it which ever way you decide on. Ron

The Dynomax Super Turbos are quieter than the Ultra Flow by about hlf at idle. You will want the STs if dumping out the side.

NASCAR now exists everything out the left side (from front of car). Drivers side crosses over at the tailshaft. No more igniting fuel from the exhaust while filling. There will not be much room for 2 mufflers and extra pipe.
