Does anyone know what color the steering coupler is, as I want to
make it the same color as a factory stock unit. What are you guys
doing? Appreciate all the input. Dodge33

I believe it was natural (unpainted). I had mine zinc plated yellow, and left the coupler end clamp for the seal natural.

Plant dependent....

My survivor 69 charger built at Ham was natural shaft and coupler
My original 69 GTX built at Lynch Road the shaft and coupler was dipped in semi gloss black

It does not mean that all got dipped....the assembly process did crazy things....

I have seen many examples supporting those plants....The other plants I am not sure...

Also want to make sure that the rubber seal is black and not orange like a lot of the aftermarket ones are...

Based on other threads on FBBO I've read that's the general consensus; black or natural.

Inspect what you have first....

This is one of those few "grey" areas....Some experts will say "they were all dipped".....Some will say "they were all natural"......I am referring to the big names in the restoration industry....

I have detailed pictures in my thread showing without a doubt the GTX column was dipped. I also have detailed pics of my charger showing it was natural...Both are 1969, GTX build date 10/68 Lynch Road, Charger 4/69 Ham plant.....

First and foremost go by what your car tells you....If that leads to nothing then go with what was proven consistent based on the plant the car was built at.....

The old one I just replaced was black. Faded and old paint. Still doesn't mean it was painted some other time long ago.

The key tell tale area is when they are dipped some paint seeped below the seal on the shaft...

This is a great read, and is very interesting information you all have given to us, and this will help in a big way! I know there are many, many knowledgeable people on this site! Thank's again!

Agree. We had a heck of a time getting it on.
They are tricky to get on...You have to do some manipulation/bending on the arms a bit. Best way to approach is use use another coupler for fitment first...

They are a great item to have for security..
