I want to convert my 440 max wedge from its hydraulic flat tappet to a hydraulic roller. My current cam specs are: Adv. Duration of 276/284 with .513 lift intake and .533 lift exhaust and lobe seperation of 112. I've got a 3000 stall converter, A&A crossram with two 600 cfm Edelbrocks, Crane 1.6 to 1 rockers, 10:1 compression and 3:73 gears (switching to 3:54's). I need some advice on what I'm facing. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

looks like a sweet ride just wondering why you want to change it looks like it has a good set up now.!
However i have a solid lift comp cam almost 600 lift and indy heads with 1.6 Indy roller rocker arm making 580 hp and its all done on 10.5.1 comp.!

Just glancing over what you wrote that cam you have sounds like a really good match with the compression. I'd dump the 1.6 rockers though. Going to a roller will cost a lot more but there are benefits, however the pay back on the bennies may take a long time. One benefit is it will be more tolerant to the crap oil that's available, but the cost difference can buy a lot of ZDDP. If you want more power from a bigger cam then you will need to raise the compression and that will put you out of the pump gas league. Personally I'd leave it alone if it runs well. Nice car by the way.
 
Why not go with a mild solid roller in your setup? You are going to have to change the springs & retainers along with a bronze geared oil pump drive and new push rods etc. I use a comp solid roller in .630 lift range with their 829-16 (solid outer body lifters) on a street car and it works great. The change to a mech. roller will really wake up your combo. Comp started selling an EMD oil-hole pressure solid body lifter for mopars. They are new and I have not used them, but they seem like a step in the correct direction as for a street driven car. I have tried a Crane hyd. roller set-up in the past with out good luck. It worked but not as expected and i ended up trying to adjust it more than a mech. setup. It would always loose the lash setting or should i say lifter set depth. It was not a drop in, set the lash/depth and forget about it setup. This was a few years ago when Crane was still in the Biz. You can down load Comps cam selection software for free and plug in your combination for a recommended Cam. I would speak with Cam rep's from a few manufactures before making the switch. With my current mech. roller setup lash is not an issue, it checked all the time but it typically holds the set dimension. Good Luck and great looking ride.
 
There are a few other items you will need, like a cam button "Mancini" sells a nice rollerized unit. You may want to consider one of the Indy or other billet timing chain covers
to set the cam end play. Depending on the recommended springs you use, you may have to cut the spring seat. I know the Indy head fit 1.55 dia springs with out machine work. Good Luck with you new setup, let us know how it works out.
 
Did you settle with a hydraulic roller? I am building a 512/440 for 66' Satellite and wanted to use hydraulic roller. even looked at the same grind as you.
 
I'm curious about the gear change. Going from a 3.73 to a 3.54 isn't much of a change and you could probably go with tires that are 5% larger diameter and get the same thing....
 
Hey Dan interesting take on the lifters. I inadvertently got the 829-16 for my hydraulic roller they work but what final adjustments did you make to them? Wondering how much power can be had set up perfectly?
