Hi All,
I have a 64 valiant, of which my gramps was the original owner. He took really good care of it except the last couple years when he couldn't drive any more.
He gave it me last year. I took it to a shop and got a tuneup along with a new fuel pump. While driving it up from Socal to my home in Norcal the rear brakes seized and one of the tires caught fire. Had the rear brakes rebuilt and most of it replaced since it was melted. The fire wasn't that bad, but there definitely flames.

I didn't didn't drive it that often, maybe twice a week over the last year. It started up overtime and drove well. Then I moved to Seattle (Shipped it) and I didn't drive for months at a time. Last month the right front brake seized. So I replaced the wheel cylinder which was completely not working. Now the car starts but when I put in gear and try to move it it dies every time. There doesn't seem to be much gas in the fuel filter. I'm wondering if the fuel pump, which is 2 years old now, is failing from sitting to long without driving? Or could it be just that the carb needs adjusting? Or maybe bad gas?
The last time I drove it successfully was 6 months ago. I would also start it up almost every week and let it run for a few, but I never put in drive. The gas in the tank in less than 6 months old.

Now the car starts it has a not great idle, just a little rough. It revs when I pump the gas, doesn't give a pop or hesitation. but it slowly goes from good idle to slower and slower and then wants to crap out.

Any body have any ideas or things I check?

Thanks in advance

I would suggest replacing gas first, along with new fuel filter.

sadly the newer gas evaps pretty fast if you didn't put stabil(or similar product)in it may have put a good residue inside the carb that now needs a rebuild.smell your oil dipstick and see if it smells of fuel.a failing fuel pump will often leak into the oil.also check to see if there is a weep hole leaking fuel on the pump.some have it,some don't.

Thanks for the feedback. I changed out the fuel filter out, there was a little bit of crud in the old one. It ran well for a few minutes but as soon as it warmed up it would die. There was hardly any fuel being pumped into the filter. Especially on idle. At some points no gas at all! Not sure if thats normal.
I'm moving and didn't have time to take care of the gas tank or check the other things people said. I'm guessing the gas went bad. But next month after I move I'll empty the tank and check the oil. And I'll post what I find.
Thanks!

I'm guessing that the fuel tank might have rust in it that's partially clogging the fuel pickup and/or lines. You might have to open up the fuel tank and check inside.

What Moparsmitty said. Try disconnecting line from tank and routing into a spare gas can to test. Also check to make sure any rubber gas lines are not collapsing or are kinked. Fuel pumps are sucking from the front and not pushing from the back so suction can make old rubber lines collapse as it builds up.

Also check lines for leaks that allow air to be pulled in by fuel pump instead of fuel. Rust holes and cracked rubber hoses.
