Balancer removal Question

I have a bad balancer on my 65 coronet with a 440. i see they are not like traditional balancers with some thing to counter the balancer from spinning when removing the center bolt... any suggestions, and does the water pump assembly have to be removed to get the balancer off.. it looks pretty close?

What I do is block the flywheel or flex plate from turning. Much better than trying to grab the balancer and risk knocking out of whack. I don't recall for sure about the water pump housing clearance but I'm pretty sure it will come off with it installed.
