Does anyone know the correct value ( ohms ) for a ballast resister for electronic ignition ? I just bought this V-8 carburated Dakota and the coil expanded and cracked the top. Also does anyone know the NAPA echlin part # for a marine coil ? I hear the marine stuff is the best quality, Thanks

primary thermal, around .5 ohms
primary non-thermal , around 1.5 ohms
secondary around 5 ohms

Can be changed depending on the performance and ign system you have. That's for stock

I just have a factory electronic ignition, the ballast I have is the single one and I measured it at 1.4-1.5. Is the one that measures .5 ohms for points ?

effectivelly, .5 is ALSO for points, however my Haynes manual states also for the dual ballast system, like thermal and non thermal on primary resistor like previouslly mentioned

How many pins are on your electronic ignition? The single ballast is for the 4 pin the dual ballast is for the 5 pin. The marine coil is epoxy filled for higher vibration. I believe its suppose to measure 1.5

Thank You All, I found my Direct Connection Racing Bible (circa 1979) . It looks like I have to go to the dual ballast, thanks again !

If your car got stock 5 pins modules, it can either use 4 or 5 pins modules and both using same dual ballast resistors.

I guess thermal ballast are those no fully filled with the epoxy on back of ceramic piece. can't tell it for sure

if you are upgrading a points car, the kits includes a single ballast for it, but can't recall the Ohms on these kits

MSD coils sets with resistor included gets a .5 to .8 ohms resistor.

Usually performance kits with resistors are all below 1 ohm.

I'm still unsure what does affect the ohms setup on one or another electronic ignition systems more than feed with more power straight to coil... but dunno what does affect to ECU directly.

I just bought a spare single ballast resistor and I'm pretty sure it ohm'd out at .5 - .8 (Mopar Performance pointless electronic ignition).

My bad, your correct it is .8
