I'm thinking all the mopars that I saw cross the block were "well bought", hopefully the prices will turn around for Friday and sat.. I would have been upset if I took my car down there and they put on the schedule for any day other than Friday or Sat. prime time.
I'm no Mopar expert, but I think the "circus" atmosphere inflates the prices of these cars. I'd love to hear what the employees are saying to the potential bidders during these auctions. At least with the economic meltdown, some sanity may return to the market. C'mon, 1 Mil for a Hemi, conv, cuda? Not worth it unless you can sell it for 2 mil.
The most paid was just over $4m, and that was for the very first one built (red on red I believe). Who's to say it/they are worth any less than an original AC Cobra, or a Duesenberg?
But you are correct in the assertion that cash, egos, alcohol, and silicone collide violently out there
Around here in NY State all the prices are down as expected. I am glad to see the prices correct themselves. About 3 years ago all the prices seemed to have peaked now they are all down like the economy. But this does put more cars into the hands of people that will drive and enjoy them instead of sitting in a collection someplace. The same price drop happened in the late 1980's, collector cars were the hot ticket when the market was down and prices went up sky high. But the prices/car market corrected back then too. So drive um if got them or go get a new if you got the extra coin.
People need to consider what it costs to restore these vehicles and how rare some of them are. A decent paint job alone is a fortune.
I saw one guy back from Iraq who built a concours camero, paint daubs, date correct this part number that, factory correct overspray, etc etc. It sold for $39k. People pay more than that for new pick up trucks. Imagine the time, knowlege and effort involved rebuilding that car.
Im not saying people should be guaranteed a profit selling cars but $40k for a fresh museum piece or a basically brand new '69 Camero is FN CHEAP!
