Battery Cable.......Really?

I was helping a buddy with a 70 Coronet wiring diagram and if I was interpreting the legend correctly, the battery cable was shown as 6 gauge. Did the factory actually use that light of cable? Seems like a #6 cable would get mighty warm cranking a 440.

original battery cables were pretty small.not sure of the thinking process back then.prob done to save money.

Yes, many factory cables were 6ga. They were (marginally) adequate when new. I routinely upsize to 2ga.
