I don't see why not... but if your in doubt, check the local track tech officials &/or the IHRA or NHRA rules books {whom ever applies to where you want to run & what sanctioning body it is}, for you specific Class & ET you plan on running the car in, there maybe an exemption to the rules... if you move your battery to the trunk, you need to have a shut off safety switch, to the exterior of the rear of the car, plainly marked, also a solid sealed divider/firewall, between the trunk & drivers compartment area...
As far as NHRA: Yes, you can. The battery cannot be located in the passenger compartment and if put in the trunk, there needs to be a firewall between the trunk and the passenger compartment, or the battery can be put in a steel or aluminum sealed and vented (to outside the trunk)box. There are specs for the materials for the firewall and/or box. There also needs to be a master cut-off switch with a shut-off accessible from outside the trunk if the vehicle can exceed 135mph. This is all covered in the General Regulations, Section 8:4. If you have any other questions, PM me.
read the rule book for your sanctioning body.there are several diff rules with putting a battery in the trunk and they will very with your class for sure.from how you have to secure it,to venting, and more.
My battery is in the trunk and I run my battery cable thru the car. I have an aluminum sheet between my trunk and interior. Since I run my big battery cable thru the car under the carpet I did not want it hot with 12 volts all the time. So I use a Ford Starter solenoid in my trunk so that the battery cable under the carpet is only hot while cranking the eng. Then I ran an 8 gauge wire from the battery up to the starter relay for the car to pick up the 12 volts to work everything in the car. That 8 gauge wire has a 70 amp fuse right at the battery where that wire comes off the battery. That way since it is hot all the time if it would short it is fused. Ron
