Anybody ever mount a battery in the trunk? I'm building a 69 Charger and really want a super clean engine compartment (no battery). I have a relocation kit just for doing it that seals the battery up with a vent tube that runs threw the floor. I'm having second thoughts, what do you think.

I'm planning on doing the same with the 70 RR. You'll have to have some pretty HD wire to run back there and probably want to take a look at some of the wiring mods that have been mentioned lately as well. Some pretty good tech on Mopar wiring has been discussed in recent posts.

I put the battery in the trunk of my Cuda.

Looking at 65hemi's posted picture it looks like the gas filler line (the silver pipe below the hinge) is adjacent to the battery. I've thought about moving my battery to the trunk and wondered about gas fumes and sparks inside the trunk area. How is that addressed and prevented?

The silver pipe is not the gas filler line, just the old gas tank vapour separator. Gas filler is behind the licence plate and gas tank is vented to outside. Should be no fumes in the trunk or cabin. Battery is a sealed Optima.

E body Barracuda all have the tank fill behind the license plate. A Challenger fill IS on the right side of the car but like mentioned, should never be any gas fumes in the trunk. Is there is, you have a leak somewhere.

Very nice job, I didn't really think about the added benefit of the sealed optima batteries "have to get one". My battery box is one that completely seals the battery with the exception of the vent hose. The kit came with a 2AWG cable but only a short negative which I'll replace with one that will reach to the engine block. I also have a mini starter that only pulls 70-90 amps.

You don't need to run a cable all the way back to the front of the car to ground the battery to engine block. You can ground to the frame at the rear of the car and use a ground strap on the block.
You should consider running a #10 from the alternator to the shutoff at the rear so that the master switch does indeed shut down the car. If not the alternator will keep the car running even after yiou shut off the battery switch.

I will state again. A negative cable is not needed to the front of the car. A clean properly made short cable works fine. Add a short cable up front as well. Mine has nut welded into the torsion bar X member. A 6" cable bolts to the trans (think about where the starter attaches to) I just did a load drop test on mine. I found the positive alternator feed to have a 1.5 volt drop. corrected it (on/off master switch). The ground side only lost .02 volt under load. The motor is a 15-1 572 with 34 degrees locked out at the crank trigger. It spins fine.

Good to know, iron being not nearly as conductive as copper I just thought it would be better to run it all the way up. Thanks, I'll be installing it tonight along with the final last bit of wiring. 15:1 572, I'd love to see that run. As for the shutoff switch I won't be running one, it's a street car 9.8:1 451 "WOW that don't sound so impressive anymore".

Here is the one I did in my old 68 Runner. The battery box was resessed into the trunk floor for a better look.
I used 0/1 welding cable for postive and ground.
