I'm new to B bodies. So here goes.
70 Satellite
Doing BB conversion, 4 gear conversion.
Can acquire bellhousing 2468372 65-66 vintage. 10 1/2" Cast Iron. 4.35" IBR bore.
As long as my B body 833 retainer fits the bore, I use correct 130 tooth flywheel and correct matching starter.
Any reason why I can't use the bellhousing in my 70?
Thanks for the help.
Cheers!

Best I know of everything prior to 1970 used the 143 tooth 11" stuff. Also, except for the horsepower rating, all the starters are the same

(yeah yeah I know, there are some differences. but they are basically all the same)

The only reason I can think of that you "couldn't use it" (and you still can) is the earlier bellhousings had the ball stud mounting (and therefore in a slightly different place) than what a 70 would have had

Thanks 69 Runner. I believe you are correct. Someone I spoke with today, confirmed also, the ball stud is in a different location. Could make a plate adapter, but not keen on that. Thanks, that clears that up!
Cheers!

So I am going to be the usual hard *** that I am, on these sort of questions. What you can do and what one should often diverge. Floating the idea out there before you get too deep is wise. Yes as per the prior info you can certainly bolt it up and it fits fine. Glad the ball stud alignment issue came up for disclosure. Since getting at least a 68 and up bellhousing is relatively easy to find and both small and large pilot retainer trans too, why dont you make life easy and get the correct era stuff. One can sell the older set up and be next to even on the dollar side to buy the correct era stuff. The trans and b'house is just the start of your expense. You need to surface the flywheel, clutch. ideally balance it. Go through at least the stop rings and bearings in trans. Get the bell crank, studs etc.
You dont mention what year of trans you have, but beware that the '70 up extension housing has a differing mounting position than 69 and earlier.

Make life easier and go the expense on the stuff that really fits, and going to make things go together 'right'.

Stuff was changed per models for a reason, dont think you can out think the engineers.

Right you are. My noted inexperience with b bodies made me ask the question.
You always get what you pay for. Pays to do it right!
Cheers Chris

Fantastic response. You are well on your way to actually learning about your car. Yes, you did ask a good 'leading' question. Hang out with old timers near where you live, absorb, absorb, and again absorb.
