Is there a better bearing setup for this other than the 'Green' style ball bearing without having to redesign the rear end housing or do a complete housing swap? Is there a way to make the Timkens work without doing a major redesign to the housing? @RJRENTON dit ones fo you! :D

I'd be interested to know this as I've always wanted to have discs on the rear but stuck with drums due to the bearing issue. Drum brakes seem to need more regular maintenance than discs and wheel cylinders don't seem to last more than a few years before they start leaking.

Wilwood insists on the Strange/Moser "loose fit" snap ring green bearings.

There are several kits on the market that can be used with tapered bearings. Dr diff has two of them.

Any references or part/kit numbers? There's been a member or two on here that were using the taypered bearing with their rear disc conversions.

I dunno about that. I have 3 old pickups plus an SUV....a 95 and a 96 Dakota and a 97 full size diesel and the the 2000 Durango that my X walked away with all have rear drums and none of them have had the rear cylinders replaced.....but iirc, one rear cylinder got replaced on the 95 several years ago that's still working well.

Dr diff doesn't seem to use part numbers, but they are in the brake section on his website. He is out of the 10.7"size but the 11.7" are in stock. In a nutshell, any kit that mounts the caliper adaptors on the outside of the bearing retainers, and supplies a spacer to replace the backing plates should work. The other type of mount is the Dr diff type that uses a caliper mount the same thickness as the backing plate, and is used to replace the plate.

Maybe I've just been unlucky, but wheel cylinders and steering gaiters on rack and pinion steering/universal joint boots on FWD cars have never lasted long.

I was just looking at the Dr Diff 10.7" kit for $600 that works with original style bearings and clears 14" wheels - time to start saving!

I've had my 70 Roadrunner since March of 2014, wow man, over 6 years! I can still remember the grind that was the "turn and burn" Friday/Saturday/Sunday trip my best friend and Mopar brother took from south Louisiana to St. Charles Missouri and back to pick her up. Fast Lane Classic Cars...before they were running the ad on Mecum.
Anyway, the very first modification I did was a Dr. Diff front drum to disc conversion. No leaks or problems from my rear drum cylinders, and I'm pretty sure I'd know it.
I just picked up all my old brake parts yesterday from the shop that's transforming my RR. The drilled and slotted discs still are thick and in great shape. I think that zinc plating option helped, and very low miles of course.

Here's the setup I got from Dr. Diff:
DoctorDiff Stage 2 complete front disc brake kit upgrade to 11.75" drilled/slotted/silver zinc plated rotors, front mount black zinc plated calipers and DOT stainless flex hoses $650
PV-12 combination valve $85
Pair, pre-bent master cylinder lines $30
choose...(I don't remember which one I chose)
1 1/32" bore aluminum master cylinder pkg $95 (Firm pedal)
or...
15/16" bore aluminum master cylinder pkg $100 (Soft pedal, increased line pressure at pads)

Now that I have 4x 6 piston Wilwood disc brakes, my Dr Diff setup is going to another in our forum family.
