I'm wondering what piston, head combo would give the best quench in order to run high compression with out detnation? I would think a heart closed head with a heart dish piston would be ideal but that is just an speculation on my part with out anything to back it up. I'm looking to get as much compression as possible with 91-93 pump gas. Looking at a cam with very little lope so it won't bleed off that much compression if that is a factor. I'm thinking I should be able to run 10-10.5:1 with alum heads. Thanks for your insight guys.

A heart chamber like the Indy heads use works good. To me the best is a flattop piston at zero deck with a good closed chamber head and the .039 head gasket. An aluminum head should give even better quench effect then an iron head. Ron

Thanks Ron. I know the standard rule no sharp edges or corners that would serve as hot spots. I saw some pistons with a D shape dish and just wondered if that was preferred over a flat top or not. Also had heard the heart or D shape chamber was preferred.

I actually use the D-dish piston in my 493 as it has the flat part on one side so I still get good quench. But I have to use a D-dish piston as with my 75 CC EZ heads my comp was up about 11.8 and I built it for 92 pump so I wanted my comp around 10.5. If I could have used a flattop piston I would have not used the dished piston but they are nice since you can use them to drop comp and still have quench since they still have the flat part on some of the piston so you can still build quench in an eng. I was going to use the 84cc Eddy RPM head which would have given me a comp about 10.5 or in that area with a flattop piston as thats what I was going to do. But I changed my mind when I got a good deal on the EZ head and since it only has 75cc heads I had to go to the dished piston. I prefer a full flattop piston if I can use one and have the comp I want. But its nice they make a dished piston that you can still get quench with it. If I was using race gas where if my car was race only then I would have stayed with the flattop piston. Ron
