:angryfire: <--- me after my third set of spark plug wires in a year. One 7mm set, and two 8mm sets. Just bought my last set a week ago, and they are already arcing on the fender and have two jumping spark; Ridiculous that I am dropping a cylinder after only one week of use. What is the absolute BEST set of wires I can put on this car and expect trouble free performance from now on. I am using a set of $50 heat wraps already, and no wires are even close to the header. Cost isn't a concern, but would like the best spark for my buck. American made is a priority. Works with factory style cap, looking for a universal set. Have a MSD 6AL ignition and MSD blaster 2 coil. Factory Distributor, with performance cap and rotor.

Moroso ultra-40 8.65MM's?
MSD 8.5MM's?
Taylor Cable Thunderbolt 10.4MM's?

I use accel 300+ race wires best I have ever had about $80.00 at autozone

I make wires for people all the time. The MSD is a very good wire. HOWEVER
any wire will dry up and crack and arc out if its gets to close to heat. I make hem with hi heat race boots and heat sleeving as well as ceramic boots.
The MSD 8.5 is pretty good at being heat resistant, I also offer a hybrid wire that is 8.8mm. Heat protection and hi heat boots are the only thing you can do really.

Morrosso were the worst I ever had in my hand and the Taylors are way over priced and break to easily.

I recommend the MSD's with hi heat boots and sleeving for protection if the wire itself is getting compromised

I am already using heat sleeves on my boots.. All the wires were separated. Arcing on fender, well away from heat source and other wires. Jumping on two plug boots, once again, away from header.. I will admit, I was in a time crunch last week before Daytona and ordered the only set in stock and that was the super stock' Accel junk.. Payed $60 and got a weeks use out of them. I wanted MSD but was leaving the next morning and I needed them that evening.

That sucks.. lot of junk out there. I can make you a set if need be

I run Taylor 409's on my hemi and B1 TS motor. never has an issue.
I also run MSD 8.5 mm wires on my 65 blue dodge.
I think your doing something wrong.

We run Firecore Wires. Made in Ohio, and they are huge supporters of Mopar Races.

Had the same set on the car for the past 3 years only problem we had was the coil wire started arcing. Told Rick from Firecore and he replaced it for free.

Their service is great!

whats the cost of those firecore wires?

Yeah go out and buy 135 buck plug wires. Genius. We gotta dragster the shop owns called Black Widow. It's 455 Buick powered. It's in the 4s in the eighth mile and all we use is an old Mallory dual life dual point distributor with a Pertronix conversion and Accel 8mm spiral core wires. 109 bucks for the Pertronix conversion and 50 for the wires. Yall are crazy.

Had a factory set, purchased the summit racing set, now just recently purchased the accel set. The wire was arcing on the fender with no other wire in sight, when it was less than a week old. I don't think their is anything 'wrong' you can do about that. Plug boots could not handle the heat of the headers, with boot protectors and jumped fire on two plugs. Your Hemi's wires are a mile from any heat? You could run just about any wire on that car for decades. Summit wires were arcing in about 5 places on the fender, and jumping fire on about three cylinders. Factory wires didn't make it a day with this ignition. Can't buy an MSD set, don't have an HEI distributor. Taylor 10.4's are $140.. Universal ultra 40's are $100. I don't mind paying a few extra bucks for a spark plug wire that is going to last and is quality built in the USA by a small business. Like I said, I have a different opinion on products than a person who hauls their car on a trailer. Daily driving these cars is a whole different avenue; no comparison in product performance. I have absolutely no clearance with angled plugs on the #2/#4 cylinder, getting some aluminum boot protectors installed and placing my sock covers over those. Going to ding in the #2 tube some more and provide more clearance..

I deal with all types of issue like that for people ^^^^^
I intermatch components to solve the issue. I have 600 ft of wire here and 100's of terminals and boots...LOL and mostly deal with the LS1 race crowd. Headers and turbo's and s/c all of them present thier own little challenges.

Metal will transfer the heat. If the wire or boot it touching any metal that gets hot it will compromise the wire eventually.

How many miles are you getting out of these other wires?

Are you racing it?...really ringing out the RPMs on a regular basis?

Arcing on the fender? Maybe you are running them too close to 'said' fender? :shruggy:

I can't imagine even a crappy set of wires lasting less than a year. I'm using MSD S/F 8mm on mine since re-assembly (700 + miles?) and narry a problem. Autozone has them for about $50. It's not a race car, but I do have headers (ceramic coated). I have also routed the wires so there are no loops that would allow it to rub or touch things such as fenders, brackets, clamps, etc., aside from the rubber coated wire looms on the valve covers.

Quality Low OHM Resistance Spark Plug Wires

Any brand that is a low ohm resistance spark plug-wire @ 40-50 ohms/per.ft. for a race plug wire, especially with any hot ignition & especially a hotter or multi-spark &/or capasitive discharge type, like MSD ignition, 8-10mm plug wires, Taylor or MSD's have always been good to me, never had any issues ever, with either of them, they both have lasted for years, on a daily driver 99 Dakota & a couple of 68 RR's, many other race cars... I've also always used wire separators & heat boots on mine, they were cheap-o's from Summit Racing... The typical Auto-parts store, Cheaper "Performance" Spark Plug Wires are way higher resistance, like 1200-1500 ohm/per.ft., some are 500-750 ohm/per.ft., IMHO you actually get what you pay for, with quality set of low ohm resistance spark plug wires & a MSD ignition &/or hot coil combo... If your making up your own wires from a universal set, they sell heat sleaves & shrink tubing for plug wires, that will also protect the wires from excessive under hood heat & arching, even radio interferances or heat conditions...

I believe it's dei has boot and wire protector sets that use shrink wrap to keep them from moving on the wire I'll take a pic of the set I bought along with the part number if interested. I have a set of Mopars solid core race wires I bought a while back for my motor course I haven't installed it yet due to still waiting to set up the rear end so I can move my baby on her own wheels she's currently on Jack's in the back.

I have Firecores as well. I don't think there is a better set of wires

heres the dei kit they do offer different colors and also took a pic of the part number for those interested.

I've run Taylors on a couple with no issues but will try Firecore's the next time I need some.

did you know accel is made in china now? I found it out when I read the box and I was disapointed as I always used em back in the day (78), the conundrum for me is they still work great
