I have a 1969 RR 383, 4 speed original; I’d like to change out the transmission fluid, any suggestions on what kind. I don’t run the RR hard just take it to shows.

SWEPCO gear oil is good stuff http://www.swepcousa.com/lubesite/products/h201.htm but most auto parts stores don't sell it. However, a lot of Porsche repair shops use it. I used to have a 72 Porsche 911 and most of the guys into racing these things won't run anything else. I also ran it in my 02 Durango rear end for nearly 100 k miles and I have changed the rear end oil three times so far. It might be the only Durango out there with 170K on the original rear end. I use the SWEPCO motor oil on my flat tappet cam engines and so far so good.

I gotta Durango (99) with over 225,000 miles on it. LMAO!

This has been discussed many times on various Mopar web sites. The service manual will tell you to use ATF in cold weather. Many people swear that you can run it in any climate conditions and that it makes the trans shift easier with no damage to the trans or syncros, others claim it will hurt them with time.

I thought about this for a long time and finally chose the trans fluid/lube that James Passon (Passon Performance) sells. He has been rebuilding these old Chrysler manual gear boxes for years and now has manufactured both a H.D. overdrive 4 and 5 speed transmissions for our cars. I figured that what he provides would be the best thing for the trans.

What's his fluid more comparable to? ATF or 90wt.?

Transmission fluid choose made, Thanks

Passon Performance, I call them and purchased there Transmission fluid if they've been in business all this time there sure doing something right.
Thanks all of you for your input.

Lighter weight like AFT but I am guessing there are other additives in it as well.

Mr. Passon has always had a good reputation from what I've seen. His posts that I've read over on the A body site have always been informative and friendly, also. If I ever get the chance to pull off a 5 speed conversion on one of my cars, he has my business.

Me too.

When I get back to my Bee with the 4.56 rear end gears in it, I plan to buy one of his 4 speed overdrive gear sets for the car.

I have to sell some stuff first though and get me life a little more simplifed and become more of a minimalist--to much STUFF.
