I have a 67 coronet that I'm putting a 440 and bb 727 into and I was wondering how much do I need to have my driveshaft shortened. The car currently has a 318 and sb 727.

Thanks , -TheQuickster

Mine (383/727), measuring from the top of the u joint to the end of the yoke is 63 3/4". Came with the car, I assume it is the original, but I've never installed it so someone should probably confirm I have the right one. But I wanted to try and be helpful, since these guys have been so helpful for me.

Thanks, I've read different things on google but wanted to hear straight from some guys that know there stuff. Was that driveshaft out of a Coronet?

Mine measure almost exactly 52 center to center. 67 coronet 440/727 8 3/4 742 case

Shouldn't have to shorten it at all if both have a 727. The tailshaft to mount length is the same on bb and sb 727. Only would have to shorten it if you had a 904. Then you need the correct yoke as well.

Right out of a '68 FSM- 47.81" from centerline of frt.yoke brg .bores to centerline of rear brg. bores.Sticks were 51.53" for BB.SB were 52.27"

Quickster I'm sorry was on Dart page. 52.07" for 383&up for an auto.Stick shows 50.96" with a Dana, 52.07 for a 383.

I will be shortening my driveshaft after the the engine is back together.http://www.supershafts.com/ said to measure from the flat of the back of the tailshaft to the middle of the u-joint cup on the rear yoke to make me an aluminum shaft.

Yeah but if you already have the d/shaft the factory measure is (probably(?)) better?

Well I was told it had a sb727 but now I'm second guessing myself if it's a 904 or not, my car has a 318, would they have come with a sb 727? I have a 440 at a machine shop now, but I have my bb trans back already it's just not installed. And I was hoping to shorten the driveshaft if I have to and have it ready for when my engine gets back.

Ok the measurement for SB is 56.17" for 273/318 in a body per FSM. THEN you COULD have a "taxi" 318 with a 'big' 727. My book doesn't say anything about length.

Look at your tranny pan. If it dog legs on one side then it is a 727. Yes you can get a sb 727. It may have been the more common transmission as I am not sure they put the 904 behind the poly 318which is what you should have. There are some different variants of 727 with short snouts and flanges instead of slipyoke but most had the standard car tail shaft. Check and see if it is a 727 and if it is you are already good to go on the driveshaft......asuming it is in good shape

Ok so I just checked and yes it dog legs out on the pan and I measured my drive shaft , its roughly 52 center to center, looks like I don't need it shortend after all . Thank you Gentleman.

That's not how you measure driveshaft length. You measure center of U joint to center of U joint. There are more than than one front yoke length. FYI
