After scouring all the F()BO forums and of course google, I can’t seem to find a definitive answer. Okay, to the point… finishing up my 440 swap into my ‘66 and I need help with power steering brackets. I currently have a 2129623 pump and small block brackets with a (just under) 5” pulley. Are a set of BB brackets all I need or do I require a new pump and brackets? Will this pulley will work with my setup? Non-a/c car. Thanks in advance for the SA.

It appears to me, that the pump he has in his picture is a 65 and earlier pump with a 5/8 inch return hose nipple. For 66 and later the power steering return line is 3/8". I think his steering box return nipple is 3/8 inch also on his car from what I can see.

Thanks for the inputs all and the links. I do have a double groove pulley and I’m not aware if that’s a Federal pump or not. I just grabbed the PN off of it. Looks like we have a member in the thread that has what I need or I will hit 440 Source. Appreciate the quick responses.

I appreciate it. I have a handful of other items needed from 440 Source

from what I’ve “researched”, the large notch indicates a TRW pump which also may dictate which brackets I need.

Im thinking its a Federal. I knew it wasn't a Saginaw. I have a Saginaw and I need brackets for a Big Block. 440 Source has those brackets but not for the Federal. They also have the double pully but I'm not too keen on using an aftermarket one. Saw one come apart once. I'm converting my '62 to power steering.

That's what I ment, a TRW. I handle too many parts with my job :) I knew it wasn't a Saginaw. Well let’s hope my aftermarket pulley isn’t another statistic! One of their bracket sets I’m looking at now says good for all but Federal. I may have to give them a ring

I'm getting mixed up between the TRW and Federal. The big notch like yours is the TRW. What I've found out so far. The way the bracket bolts are on the pump looks like the Federated. Help!

It's a TRW/Thompson. It has the deep notch.

There are two TRW pumps. I think what you have is called the small TRW pump used in the mid 60s. It's hard to see in your pictures.. but if the pump shaft is solid it's it likely has the smaller diameter housing. The large TRW has a larger housing and a hex hole in the middle of the shaft, it was used in the late 60s. The pumps look really similiar. The upper 2 bolt bracket can bolt on either, but the back bracket is different between the two. At least that is what I am remembering.

My '64 Polara has a TRW pump with 5/8" return line. These were used through 1966. My 1967 R/T has a TRW pump with a 3/8" return line. I had a lot of trouble last year with my power steering, and traced it to the pump. A friend donated a couple of TRW pumps. In disassembling them, I found the pump with the smaller return line also had a smaller pump inside the reservoir can than the pump with the 5 /8" line, although they looked very similar on the outside. The brackets are almost the same. The smaller pump only takes one bolt on the rear bracket. The TRW big block brackets are reproduced.

I sent my pump back to the re builder. I had no issues with the pump after it was rebuilt, and it was not expensive, if I recall correctly.

Lot of good info there and based upon what you said it does like the smaller diameter housing.
