Big block timing cover crank oil seal installation

Have the cover off and looking to install new seal. Since it goes in from the inside is there a tool you all use to install without hitting on the lip of the seal?

Yup, that’s my way too. Doesn’t take much, just make sure the outer lip on cover is flat.

piece of 2x4 on each side and squeeze it in with a vise.

Also helps if you throw the seal in the freezer for an hour first. Then it contracts, and gets smaller to go in easier. But keep the cover nice and warm.
