He's using straight walnut, stuff bounces all over the place! Wondering why he's not blasting the underside? How many hours is he charging you?

They weren't done yet. I just stopped past to see. He is charging me 50.00 an hour cuz they were slow. Usually it's 80.00. Roughly 25 hours for the whole car. 1250.00 erik

Looks nice and solid!
Question on the blasting rate. Guy near me started soda blasting business, from what I've been told he's at $140/hr. How does this compare to others?

had my coronet blasted, guy had a mobile unit and came to my location. 1200.00 no underside thou.

Good lord, for what you guys are paying, and receiving, I'm too cheap! Plastic is very expensive, 4 times as much as Walnut, and more than Soda...not sure the price of Soda as I don't do that. 25 hours to blast the Coronet? I get 8-10 for that car max @$150.00 hr, a rate I have not moved at all since 2002. But, I never let a car go out with out a complete blast, and on rotisserie, its just how and what I do, establishing the standard of what people can expect, etc.

Thanks Donny, was wondering how many hours it takes to blast a complete car.

If he's taking that long, he might have a too weak of an air compressor. You need at least 185cfm to move the media in amounts beneficial to blast. And, if he's taking that long, he's torturing himself which will yield a poorer result on the finished product; your car!

donny, actually it took 25 hours because of the incredibly tough enamel paint and 1/2" thick bondo on the quarters. He uses a combination of media, sand (never for body), and agg for different projects he runs in to. he normally charges 80 an hour and states most cars take him 20-30 for a complete job. as you know its PSI that can damage panels in a hurry, he keeps them running at a level he feels is a good balance between speed and finished product. I for one, am very impressed with the work that was turned out, and a great guy to work with. Will def. suggest him to others. Cant wait to get primed and start the body work!

All that matters is that your satisfied! Its not just PSI, it's also amount and air behind it that WILL warp stuff.

It usually costs around $2,000 for a complete blast job here in the Buffalo area. Until recently there was only one shop to got to, and he had a different guy all the time. It got to the point where you couldn't trust him to do a roof or hood because you weren't sure how bad it would be warped until you picked it up.
Coronet looks good naked! Post some pics when you get it in epoxy!

Donny, Yep, very happy, im glad I listened to ya' and went through with the blasting or I would have never known about the 1/2' thick bondo. MoparBill, going to prime in the next week or so, will def. post pics! Chromabase is expensive stuff! 650 a gallon! yikes, but my painter says I will be happy with the quality. 650 a gal probly 2 extra quarts, the dupont clear 190 a gallon plus reducer (was looking at euro clear for cost savings but got steered away from that) 1400 in product real quick!

cool idea on how to protect the steering column/wheel. I was wondering about that!

Who ordered the smurf? Just got this thing all nestled away tonight. Really happy with the priming job, he used dp60 because I plan on painting it blue. No bodywork yet, gotta let my pocket book catch up. They did fix all the rot (wasn't much rot to speak of, trunk floor center, around back windows and front window, etc.) Next up is POR15 the inside, ALL of the inside, then Sound deadning material, undercoat. I test fitted my 15x10 torque thrust Ds with crazy wide 14" wide contact patch rubber. I think with narrowing the rear end, and relocating the springs I can use the rims, but the tires are too huge and plus they are bias ply, and I want radial. Little at a time. Have a good night guys. Erik

lookin good. love the look of the crazy wide tires!

Thanks guys. Yea, the blue gives me a idea of what it will look like painted. I think a silver bee stripe will look great against the blue I'm going with.

coronet looks good naked. That big tire makes your car look like a real street bruiser.
