If they mainly stop the driver seeing in his field of vision the front fenders shake in hard driving, which likely undermines confidence in a cars chassis, then that is likely perceived to be good.
I use the analogy of those that questionably striving to stop antenna shake/flexing when hard driving by increasing the diameter of the antenna , etc, and when the basis for the "upgrade" is questioned, the response is often a meek response of, "It can't hurt".
