I have an strange issue with my brake booster, i assume it´s the brake booster. When i drive slow for a while like cruising in town so when everyting gets kind of hot the brake booster makes a vacum leak sound and it´s only making the sound when i take the foot off the brake pedal, it´s very very lound and very annoying sound. But when i just touch the brake pedal it stops making the sound but when i let off the pedal it starts again. But if i hit the freeway or get out off traffic so i can run a bit faster and not be on the brake it stops, even when i drive slow it doesn´t make a sound until everything heats up again. I think it´s beacuse of the heat..

Does anyone have any idea what to do? The brake booster seems quite new.

Hej kompis

Your leak coming and going may have to do with vacuum level - i.e. when your on the freeway your vacuum level is not as high as when idling...

either way, if your booster has a vacuum leak, it either needs repair or replacement...

lycka till

Tjenare!
No i'm not sure about that, i run 20inHg both on highway (low throttel level) and on idle. I can cruise around and have no problem as long as the car is cold or ambient (spell) temp is low. But when the car is hot and/or temp outside gets warm the problem occures, and it happends quicker the hotter the outside temp is.

Tackar för svar.

Well that is odd! Either way, booster is suspect - repair or replace..

BTW - your spelling is excellent.

BTWBTW, I don't speak Swedish - I just use Google translate ;-)

To help diagnose, with the engine running and warmed up, remove the vacuum hose from the booster and see if the interior noise goes away. Note: plug the hose temporarily and do not drive around like this.

I was over at kjalltrac and his brother yesterday and had a chance to hear the odd noise. But when we clamped the hose to the booster the noise stopped. And there was absolute no change in engine speed or idle, i guess if it was a vaccum leak to the engine speed or engine sound would have changed a bit. So next question.. Is there any ginormous super über springs inside so if i take it apart it will explode and everyone will die, or is it easy to take apart?

I guess your name is Frank, you almost tricked me into writing to you in swedish ;-) The brakebooster seems new, but the valve that sits on top has one connection broken, not the whole connection but maybe 1/2 - 2/3 of it, but the hose is on and the clamp clamps the hose but maybe when it gets hot it will swell and open a litle, small enough to make a hidious sound.

I think this could be it

The booster with the large clamp contains a diaphragm and bellows inside, it should come apart without too much drama. Not sure about the crimped type. What does your booster look like?

Yes, that crack is bad! Hit it with some RTV.

It looks like this (the valve is removed by me)

Cut connector just after the cracks

Cut 1" of 12mm cuppertube (10mm inside dia) and 2 comp high temp epoxi... just some finishing touch left..
