Hi all,

Two quick questions, on the linkage between the booster and the brake pedal, is there a bush or something that should go into the linkage hole when bolting to the brake pedal? The bolt size that will fit the pedal hole is smaller then the size that will fit the linkage, so there is alot of 'slop' in the connection. What's the right size bolt and is there a bush to take up the slack or is it meant to be that way?

Last one, the spring that goes on the linkage 'shaft', where does the other end of that spring go? Seemed obvious when I took it off, not obvious at all now I'm putting it back on.

Cheers!

Here's a pic showing the two areas I'm talking about:

There is supposed to be a bushing to take up the slack. The spring appears to be something added to hold the brake pedal up to keep the brake lights off. It will not be required if everything has been installed and working correctly.

There is a slot it the bracket the brake pedal is attached to that the spring hooks into. I didn't have the bushing so I took some lock (split)(SAE) washers and put about 6 in the hole. They fit very snug and were the perfect ID for the bolt.

definetly has a bush, my bush came with the booster i bought it is a nylon type.
my car does not have a spring and the pedla returns fine so no idea where it goes

The spring clips onto the pedal linkage push rod on one end and to the top of the pedal metal bracket on the other end. It is an essential part to keep the linkage in place and is commonly overlooked or missing on a restoration even on many show cars

Thanks guys, I got the spring on last night. I was looking to the side, found the slots on the top of the pedal frame and levered it back on.

I'll look into the split washers tonight. What size bolt is it? It feels like the 3/8" is too loose, 1/2 seams too big? Unless the hole is clogged up a bit...

Also for the bushing, I've used fuel line hose for similar jobs previously. Will it wear too quick? Should I look for a metal solution like the split washers instead? Just looking for a back up.

source the proper bush, right stuff detailing, mancini, summit maybe

Sorted it our last night, Couldn't easily find a 7/16 bolt so a 10mm SS bolt fit the bill perfectly. Made the bushing out of two pieces of 12mm (or 1/2" - 1mm wall) aluminum tubing with washers between the bolt-pedal-linkage-nut.

as an FYI for others finding this post with the same problem, the bushing size is OD 14mm - ID 10mm <- this should suit both 10mm bolt and 7/16 bolt.

thanks malicious I will look into this for my fulcrum linkage problem using pirate jack power booster and included brackets...

where did you find a spring? My brake lights stay on occasionally no matter how i adjust the stop light switch.. Undoubtedly missing the spring.

The bolt for the linkage to the pedal does not have a bushing. The bolt's shoulder has a groove for an O-ring.

I've parted out a bunch of power brake cars and none had this spring that some people talk of. Also is not shown in either the FSM or FPM.

I have couple parts like showing above pic and never seen springs either. But then again who knows

The spring is an anti-rattle spring, not a return spring. It just puts some load on the rod upward.

Wounder if it was a dealer install part. If your pedal had a rattle then the dealer installed the spring. I myself have never seen or needed one owning a butt load of cars since the 70's. If it was a factory installed part wouldn't it be in the manuals???

I have the proper bolt is you need one.

Only reason I know about it was because of our 67 resto. I forgot where it went and had to search it down on the internet. There's a groove in the rod then you attach it straight up to pedal brackets. It's only on power brake cars, never saw it on my manual brake cars, and I would say it's factory. Not sure what years. Point is, the spring does not pull back on the rod when installed.

You guys realize this thread is from 2014 right?
