I just finished rebuilding the complete front end and converted to power disk brakes.

I use the kit from "The Right Stuff" http://www.summitracing.com/parts/rsd-mdc62wkc/media/instructions

This kit went on easy and works great except for one problem.

The brake pads rattle loud when hitting a bump in the road. I mean it sounds like the front end is going to fall off.

I know it's the pads, because I applied the brakes while hitting a bump and the noise wasn't there.

In the kit they had these 2 rubber bands that was to stop pad chatter, but they look like a joke, and I didn't install them.

There has to be another way of keeping these pads quiet.

Has anyone else had this problem, and what did you do to stop it?

thanks.......

Usually there are some kind metal clips or tabs or something on the pads or attached to the caliper to avoid this. Where did you get the kit from? Put up some pictures if you can

Bought from Summit....The link is in the post above

Few things you can do to try and remedy those issues that have worked for me in the past. 1st I would make sure everything is put together right and torqued properly. After that you could try:

1) Use some disc brake anti-chatter between the piston/caliper and back of pads

2) Use a punch/hammer to bend down the ears on the ends of the pads to fit more snug where they slide

3) Use 3M adhesive backed grip tape (like for pool steps-slippery when wet surfaces) and place a couple strips of it on the backside of the pads.

Good luck

X2 on disc brake quiet on the back of the pads or install the rubber bands they may not be a joke after all.

Okay...I'll take the wheels off and recheck everything. I do like the idea of bending the ears on the ends. I recall doing that on another vehicle many years ago.

As for those "rubber Bands" I read on here somewhere that they don't last long due to the heat. That's why I didn't install them.

Thanks for the ideas. I'll get back and let you al know what I found.

At least I now know that there is nothing wrong with the suspension....

They do not tell you but you bend the tabs on the pads so you have to force them on or not they will rattle

That could have been the problem too, lol.

Reminder to self....Make sure to tighten the caliber bracket to the spindle :eek:ops:
Happens to the best of us. I tried to start a car that I pulled the carb off of the day before. Forgot about it but remembered just as soon as I saw smoke coming from under the hood. Thought the place was going to burn down by the time I got it doused. I now tape a note to the steering wheel that says DO NOT START whenever I pull something like that or disconnect the battery.

Yep...I feel dumb on this....Problem solved, no noise. I also put on some anti chatter sealant on the back of the pads.

Glad that's fixed......So I'm all set now....power steering conversion, power disk brake conversion & all new front suspension.....

Next, on to adding an electric trunk release....If it works, like I'm sure it will, I'll post it.

thanks for all the help......
