OK, so I converted to dual Master Cylinder in my 64. Problem is, the brake rod apears to be too long and is not letting the piston in the MC return far enough. The MC stays pumped up all the time and I cant press the pedal hard enough to stop. What does everyone else use for the rod to the MC. I bought the mopar adjustable one and it is even longer! Can't drive it till it's fixed.

Now after reading a couple of different posts, I checked to see where the brake shop put the rod. It is on the uper hole on the pedal. I know now it should be on the lower hole. If I put it on the lower hole it will be angled down a bit. Is that normal? It is a manual brake car.

Brake pushrod

I personally would not think it will hurt a thing, as long as the rod
does not get into any kind of bind, it should be Ok. I have built some Hotrod's
and sometime's the brake pushrod was at a slight angle...... never had a problem with them tho. Good luck.

just did a convertion from power to man brakes on my 67 and ran into same problem.i cut the adjustable rod a little on both ends to sorten it,worked great.i measured how much rod stuck into master and marked with tape.then i installed the rod on the car and marked a spot on the rod equall to where it sits when pedal is in contact with brake switch at the fire wall and figured out the diffence.cut half off of each side of the adjustable point in the rod.after a quick retap and die run it fit perfect.

I droped the stock rod into the lower hole and it is definitly allowing the MC to release all the way now. But there is no return spring there anymore so I have to pull up the pedal with my toes. The original spring broke in 3 pieces when I took it out. Where can I get one?

you can make your own with a clutch return spring kit from oreilly or pepboys or any common auto parts retailer.

I used a throttle return spring, works fine.

I went to the top of the brake pedal bracket and to the pedal itself.
