what is the best weight oil to breakin my rebuilt 383 mopar i use penzoil dont want to change to a different brand

You can source some specialized break in oil for this purpose, i don't know if Penzoil makes any and what weight is recommended. Otherwise you can get a break in additive to mix with normal oil. The main factor is having a high zinc content if i am not mistaken.

I've use 10-30 on my break ins. And X2 on the zinc comment especially if running a flat tappet cam.

X3! You must have some extra additive to keep the new cam protected. Also do not get the engine too hot. Straight water (distilled if you can) and extra fans. I have also done the cam break in cycle in several 5-7 min runs and no issues.

I would re-consider the devotion to Penzoil.... Todays oil wont work with these older engines.... Putting additives in to replace ZDDP is a gamble too.... I had a cam failure trying that method, and talking to the manufacture, I gained the knowledge that the additives aren't suspended in the oil like they would be if purchasing an oil that already has the correct blend for our engines....
Try Bradd Penn oil (Penn Grade), 10-30, then switch to whatever you need for the application.....

We use Joe Gibb's break in oil in our engines at my work.

I prefer Barry Gibb's break in oil personally.... Barry Gibb young profile.jpg Sorry, couldn't resist!
