Broadway Title Company

They are still around? I used them many years ago for a car I bought with no title. Owner had died, car had been sitting for many years. Thought they were in Alabama at that time.

If I remember right, Alabama at the time had very loose DMV requirements. A while after I got that title some states wouldn’t readily accept Alabama titles for owner transfer.

I have an Alabama car. Bought it with a bill of sale. No problem at all getting Ky. title. I forget what year Alabama stopped issuing titles on cars over 35 yrs. old or something. Jerry Hall: You'll know.

Here in New Jersey you have to have a valid title from the state the vehicle was titled in
Or a transferable registration along with a notarized bill of sale from the seller
New Jersey does not care how old the car is you need a title to have it registered in the State of New Jersey
I have been through this process with a New York car

Maine does not title vehicles over 25 years old. All you need is a bill of sale and you can register it. We did not even have to go to a DMV, local town office handled it. Show them a bill of sale, pay a few $$ and you had tags. The registration was transferable and many states accept it in lew of a title since Maine is a no title state. I am sure Broadway registers the car then applies for a title in a neighboring state with the valid registration.

Alabama was not a title state until 1974. A car sold in Alabama that is older than 1974 is sold on a Bill of Sale with a registration in the sellers name and a copy of Alabama title law. That should allow you to get a title in any state that requires one.

that could be why I ended up using Broadway title. It was a long time ago. Details are sure fuzzy. Thanks.

Yes, you basically sell your car to Broadway title, they register it and "sell" it back to you.

However, you will likely need a law enforcement officer to inspect the vehicle and run an NCIC search.

In the last 5-10 years most jurisdictions have clamped down on 'frivolous" NCIC searches, making this a somewhat riskier process .

Now most agencies consider (or require) running a VIN through NCIC to be part of an active criminal investigation.

...and I'll add that if you are working with a pre- VIN on fender tag car, most states require the VIN to be legible in two different places on the car.

This creates an issue on 1968 and earlier cars because the requirement simply can not be met, thus ensuing a potentially complicated discussion with the LEO officer who likely is not interested, about SO numbers versus VIN numbers.
