Buying 69 Roadrunner Hemi clone- opinions please!

Hi, just looking for knowledgable opinions from people who know Mopars as I am getting ready to spend my life savings on a car. I've been looking real hard for a really nice 1968-1970 factory 440/4 speed car for the last 3 months, trying to stay under $30k. As you know the pickings are pretty slim. Anyway this 1969 Roadrunner 426/ 4 speed/ dana car was on Ebay last week and bidding ended at 33.5k with reserve not met. Item number is 270789647290, You can see it under completed listings. I called the guy and he said he wanted $35k. I gave him a small deposit and am picking the car up Sunday. Looks like a good deal for what is here. Please advise if I am missing something. I know this is an original 383 car cloned as a hemi and does not have the correct carbs. Thanks in advance for any advise. Jeff

Looks pretty good from the pics. Only thing I didn't like about it was the tuff steering wheel on it. It just looks out of place in that car. Enjoy the new ride.

Looks nice in the pictures but need to check all the guages etc. Also good to look where it was stored and check for leaks and drips. Take a good look at the frame rails and torque boxes for corrosion. It wouldn't hurt to have a mechanic go over the drive train and a test drive to avoid the "oh crap" when you get it home. Was it originally a Hemi car, did you decode the VIN to see how it was built? Another question I always ask is "why are you selling it?" Seems like a good price, good luck.

Sounds like a good buy. The engine alone is worth darn near half the price you paid because it's a 69 model year out of a car (verified by the VIN).

Assuming that HEMI is in good shape and the body/paint is nice, this car is very well bought at 35k as you could never build one for anywhere near that!

Sweet car! I know I want to eventually put an engine with electric valve covers in my R/T, so you got one that someone else did the shoehorning for you! I don't like the pistol grips in pre-'70 cars, but that's just me! You have GOT TO, I mean GOT TO do the blackout on the core support.(Okay, actually you don't have to do anything you don't want to!)The body color behind the grill just doesn't look right.

The hemi car is a bargin when the economy pics up even if it is a clone you will make 25 percent profit no problem.

The body on the car was not done well at all. He describes the car as restored but the decklid is full of bondo and cracking, drivers front fender is wavy and looks like crap, Terrible job of hanging rear qtrs, sloppy job patching floors, no body lines lined up descent at all. Not my idea of a restored car. Between renting a traler, turnpike tolls and gas driving 600 miles round trip I wasted several hundred dollars and a full day driving. Hard to walk away from that drivetrain but $35k is alot of money. I see he's still advertising as a restored car. He really should be a bit more honest in his description of the body anyhow.

Bummer, but this is why I'd always recommend an in-person inspection as it's better to lost several hundred than 35k!!! Hope you have better luck on the next one!!!
