Hey Fellas,

Having a good discussion on a Facebook forum in effect ti how hard it is to find someone that will insure your car if you have a cage or bar in it. I know a lot of you here have FAST Pro Street cars that are Street Driven... who do you get the insurance through? Apparently Hagerty, Lant, Silver Wheel or any other dedicated classic car insurer will no longer touch them.

Oh and something else I learned of interest at least from the blurb at Hagerty's website even the new Hellcats should not be insurable (over 700hp whether modified or manufactured) WTF!

From Hagerty

Late model vehicles that have been highly customized for looks or performance (commonly referred to as “Tuner”)
Vehicles that are highly customized for appearance and suspension (commonly referred to as "Lowrider")
Commercial-use vehicles
Motorcycles or scooters
Replicas of the 1963-67 Shelby Cobra Roadster
Vehicles that are used for racing, timed events, autocross or drivers education
Vehicles modified with features such as a roll cage, wheelie casters, parachutes, nitrous components or modifications that permanently remove the roof and/or doors.
Vehicles with 700 hp or greater (manufactured or modified)

Hey Mike, When I talked to an agent at Hagerty and told him what I built and that I wanted to race it and drive it. He basically told me they like to insure cars for lawn chair jockeys. When I told him about the nitrous bottle that pretty much ended the conversation. I am with Heacock Classic.

Funny, Hagerty didn't seem to have a problem with my roll bar in my 68 charger, I'm thinking they're ok with roll bars but not cages. And I told them it would be raced. I also told them it wouldn't be driven much on the street tho., maybe 300 miles per year, and would be 475 hp. Wonder how they could prove your hp.

So you're saying that is what all they will not insure? Where did you find that? I've searched their site and can't find that. I did see some things they wouldn't insure but not that list..

Grundy insured my car with 8.50 cage, big tire etc. They made my sign a waiver acknowledging that they would not cover my car during a drag/racing event.

I just got off the phone with grundy and they said I could have a roll bar, premium was waaaayyyyy lower than hagerty " less than half" I asked and they stated that I couldn't even stop at place of work on a Saturday to grab something??? so that's kinda shitty that you have to worry about stopping to grab a pop or something and have an accident and they leave you hanging, hagerty stated they would cover in a any instance beside racing

talked to hecock after that and they are a touch higher than grundy and they also carry a 3000 mile limit where grundy does not have a mileage limit.

Goon, I thought you could not even register or plate a car with a roll bar in Ontario due to gov't clamp down on speeding (street racing).

A buddy has/had Hagerty on his 68 hemi Dart. The car has an 8 point bar. He had to sign a waiver indicating the car would not go anywhere near a track or else his entire insurance coverage would be voided.

I guess that's part of what I'm trying to figure out. More for a buddy than myself... I can understand the insurers getting you to sign a waiver but I am of the same understanding as you that Hagerty will touch NOTHING with a cage or roll bar whatsoever.

I don't go through classic car insurance my car is through a regular company as a driver.... I currently don't meet any of the exemptions I listed above but by the end of this winter I will likely be above that 700hp marker

when I spoke with them I stated I had a 6pt roll bar to stiffen car and they said that was no problem, that was Jason at hagerty

well i'll be damned. those all seem to be safety features. what if (God forbid) you careened over a cliff? wouldn't that chute come in handy?

I have Hagerty on my 67. Spoke w/the agent and also read the policy. Nothing against roll bars. Per the policy I am also cover at the track until the car is in the staging lanes.
They were aware that I would put maybe 500 street miles per yr on the car and attend numerous races.
Now the difference could by your location. I know when the company I work for sold auto policies in Canada they were completely different than the ones in the States.

I've had 2 cars with Heacock, both had cages and slicks. The forms asks if you have turbo blowers, nitrous etc. They dont seem to care and my rates are reasonable.

The more I've looked into it looks like we just get screwed by different rules in Canada. There doesn't seem to be a way to "properly" **Cough** get a tubbed or caged car insured here now unless its with Facility (high risk i.e. EXPENSIVE) insurance. There are plenty of cars with these mods on the road but I think most of them have just slipped through with grandfathering.

I've always took my cars down to the insurance agent to look at,
they never said anything about roll bars/cage etc.,
just an overall assessment/agreed value, they always said
Paraphrasing;
IF "it was wrecked on a off road type competition course, while racing
it would not be covered, unless it was in a parking lot, entry or stolen"
etc.,
all that is covered under the comprehensive part of my insurance anyway, it's AAA...

There also is insurance for that kind of stuff too...
It ain't cheap either...

I have Heacock, I sent them the pictures showing my roll bar setup. No problem. I hope they don't change their minds.

I'm with Hagerty 25k coverage 65 pro street b body no cage or roll bar 425$ year did it think to ask if they would cover it racing at a track I would guess they would not the car is in west palm beach if in Miami it would triple in cost for Shure

just went to finalize my policy because car will be done next week and grundy denied my policy because 2 years ago i rolled my pickup "not at fault accident on private property" never reported to cops even and they denied it because the insurance company paid the claim, hope to god hagerty doent deny me too, then whats a guy to do?

I local guy I know built a wicked Nova and had a roll bar in it. He couldn't get insurance so he ended up cutting it out :thatswck:
