That's pretty neat never knew there was such s thing ether. Figured you typo'd and meant 69' and half lol but I see you did mean 68'

Doesn't mean I'm right though mate, there might not be such a thing and if anyone's going to know it's you blokes. If there isn't another one around then I'm guessing my car has a pretty colourful history. Here's hoping there are, as it's kinda unusual and therefore a good thing, hey might even be a 1 of 1 car. hahahaha!

Here is mine, I'm still not 100% convinced it isn't a straight out 69 as it has had some front end damage and maybe it lost it's 69 sheetmetal.

Easy enough to determine. What's the VIN? What does the stamping on the radiator support say? What does it say on the trunk rail stamping? The stampings will have a 68 or 69 format.

Strange car you have there. The front half is a 68 well at least the front fenders and grill. The real tail panel and decklid are a 69. Looks like you have 2 cars that were fused together.

Maybe, the car has had a hit in the left front, there is visible distortion in the engine bay just under the hood hinge and the chassis rail is bent and has been kinda straightened.

I was thinking it might be a 69 that took a hit, the inner firewall was panel beaten straight, chassis rail kinda straightened, and the entire front sheetmetal, including grill was changed to a 68, probably for no other reason than convenience.

The number on the radiator support panel should be the decision maker or is that the same on a 69 and maybe was just panel beaten as well?

does it have a 68 or 69 radiator support? I'm sure the 68 stuff was added after damage.

Heres the VIN

I'll try and identify the other numbers tonight. I know theres one on the radiator support but where abouts is the trunk rail stamping?

Thanks. The VIN is obviously a 69 and indicates the car was built on or about May 21, 1969.

The trunk stamping number is on the driver's side under the weather stripping. It may not be possible to read it without pulling up the weather strip.

Don't know the difference between a 68 and 69 radiator support, I'll get a couple photos up here for you to check out. Will have a look at the trunk number tonight.

Thanks very much to everyone for your help so far! I may just have to inject a few more hundred $$$ into your economy, Roseville Moparts watch out!

Sometimes the stamp is deep enough to be visible on the under side of the metal by holding a mirror under the rail where the number is stamped.

Regarding your comment about a 69 1/2 model, that is an incorrect term that is often used within the hobby, but that does not make it right.

This began in 1964 with the mid year introduction of the Ford Mustang. There is NO American built car to date that has ever been released by the manufacturer with and MCO or MSO (that then becomes a title when sold new) that is identified in anyway as a 1/2 year model. The Mustangs were 1964 models and the M code A12, 440-6 cars are 1969 models.

Not quite true........ There were no 1964 Mustangs. The Mustangs that were released in April of 1964 and referred to as 64 1/2 were coded and titled as 1965 models. The April 1964 build Mustangs are identified by a "D" build date code and the Mustangs built in April 65 used a "R" build date code.

Well, I learned something new today, thanks. However the point I was making is not lost because of MY ignorance of this.

Ok, all has been revealed!

I checked the trunk number and it matches the VIN of the car.

The radiator support is an entirely different kettle of fish, I found under the paint what looked like a number so I cleaned it off and it's definately off a 68,

A8W406934

I'm not fussed what it's off but I suspect, from what I have read on the web, that it's from any 68 Coronet, 6 cylinder car but the W appears not to correspond to a build location?

A = Lynch Road Plan
8 = 1968 model year
W = Coronet model line
406934 = order number of the car the radiator support originally came in.

So...you do have a 1969 model year car and someone installed a 68 front end.

The 68 support was used as the replacement, then someone may have come to the fact that 69 fenders wouldn't bolt to it.
