Finally getting to the point of sticking my front suspension together on my 72 charger and when i went to put the cam bolts back in i didn't know if they needed to go a specific way being as from what i can tell they can go so the nut is facing out towards the wheel or in towards the motor and if both need to be facing the same direction as each other. And finally i was going to stick the torsion bars back in but because they are stock i heard that one has a 30 degree offset making me question how they should go back in. Should the line grooved into the hex nut on the back of the torsion bar be running horizontal or what? Any help much appreciated.:toothy5:

If they're anything like my '64,you'll want the bolt head with the cam in the engine compartment, and the nuts(and cam washer) in the wheel well area. Do you have access panels in the wheel well? They're intended to give better access to the cam/bolt for adjustment. Hope this helps!

I recently rebuilt my entire front suspension and steering;glad I did. You will be,too.

I just marked my bars with paint when they came out,and re-installed them the same way. Sharper minds than mine can answer that question better.

Not sure if i wasn't clear about what i meant with the cam bolts so i figured ill give it another shot. What im asking is they can be rotated 360 degrees while in the bushing so the nut that is welded to the washer will face either out towards the wheel or in towards the engine and does doing so do anything? as for the torsion bars i marked the front hex but i didn't have the adjusting bolt all the way down when they came out just enough to relax the tension to get them out. Just curious if they are supposed to be installed so that groove in the back runs horizontal or if i should just stick them in referencing my mark and hope for the best.

I think I hear what you are asking on the adjusting cams. For the A-arms right? All you need to do is get it close enough to drive to the alignment shop, and that includes putting the shims back in place as they were. Put em the same on both sides, go by the paint marks of the old setting if you can. The shop will adjust from there. Rotating those changes your caster and camber angles.

On the torsion bars: driver’s side, looking the grill head on, you’ll want to rotate the cam clockwise as far as possible, likely with a little pressure from a crowbar as the torsion bar is slid into place. Passenger counter clockwise. This will help give the proper preload to the spring once the adjuster bolt is back in. If you don’t do this or you do them unevenly side to side, the adjuster won’t have its proper range.

As far as the orientation of the bars, it does not matter if the slot is level or slanted. It will work the same way. the slot end does go in the body crossmember side though.

As far as the cam bolts go thanks i have them stuck in there and if need be ill try to adjust them when the car is drivable if need be to get them aligned. For the torsion bars they are the stock bars and what I've heard is that the passenger side bar has a 30 degree offset and needs to be put back in the proper way for it to work properly. Seeing as i still don't fully comprehend how the torsion bar setup works is this correct or can i just stick the bars in as stated which ever way? I also don't know what you mean by rotate the cam clockwise and counter for each side because i'm not sure what the cam is. Much appreciated on the help thus far i don't get this torsion bar suspension at all. :icon_scratch:
