Cam Failure ????

Anyone know the symptoms of cam failure? Will the engine run at all if it happens?

Cam failure as in a flat lobe? It will run but it will be a dead hole on the affected cylinder.

You might idle fine you might not,you might have lifter tick,you should feel a loss of power,popping threw the carb,backfires.
You can put a vac gauge on the intake and watch for a fluctuation or check out the video below.

Here is a video I posted a while back, it will show what a flat cam looks like.
