Hello all,

I am recently bought a 67 charger with a 383 in it. The motor had some leaks at the oil pan and timing cover so I’m in the process of changing them. Now that I’m this deep into it I’m thinking why not change the cam. My question is what is a good cam for these motors that will give it some lope at idle? Also is the distributor timed differently with a cam and are adjusted needed to the carb after a cam?
Thanks

Dont fix whats not broke. You will be changing more then a cam. JMO

It's tough to pick a cam nowadays. Mostly due to quality concerns.

You could talk to Howard cams.
Without other parts changes probably no big increase in power.
Exhaust changes, mufflers can make it sound different much easier.

Need a list of specs.. the cam guys have no idea what you have..
Weight 3800?
Gears 323?
Tire size?
Converter stall?
Cylinder head #, valve size, etc etc
CR
Headers yes
Intake.. replacing?
Carb size? Going to a holley ? :D

Basically all we can suggest from your question and pics is " 1 step up from stock"

Weight 3800 I’m guessing
Gears 323
Tire size 275/45/17
Converter stock
Cylinder head unsure, need to pull a valve cover
CR unsure, should be stock
Headers yes
Intake.. keeping stock
Carb size Edelbrock, unsure of size

Just my 2 cents… if it runs good now I’d probably leave it alone. A basically stock 383 with a stock converter is pretty easy to over cam. Be easy on the overlap.
