Hey all, I am looking for some suggestions on what cam to go with. I'm planning on keeping it pretty mild. I was just going to do a stock roadrunner cam with KB 240 pistons and a Edelbrock 1407. Other than that is basically stock. Then I realized the 68 roadrunner cam I was going to put in had some chips on the corners of the distributor gear, so I am going to go with something else. I was thinking the lunati voodo 256/262. I just looking for a weekend cruiser I have 235 or 245 gears I believe id have to check again. Im just looking for a little lope. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

Comp Cams sells a magnum muscle cam with "aggressive" idle.

With all Im hearing about the current quality of todays hydraulic lifters, if its within the budget, you may want to look at going to a solid roller...
Of course you would be required to upgrade rockers to adjustables if not already and get new pushrods...

I was told you can use the stock converter but need to upgrade valve springs.

I red X’d your reply only as a possible problem that may crop up and that is the torque converters stall in a. Emissions era car with the reported 2.45 gear ratio.

What you listed would work 100% fine with a older non-emissions or low emissions era car since that cam is a copy or there rendition of the factory HP cam. That cam was coupled with a higher stall converter than the late ‘70’s car came with because of there non performance nature and build like low compression flat port heads (as we called them. AKA junk) small valves multi ported / vacuum port carb and Catalytic converter’s —- EEEKKK!

The KB-240 slugs help out but there is still much left to this build that is unknown. For me at least, I find it hard to use a bigger cam with those 2.45 cog’s out back!

Also, those cams DO NOT! have an aggressive idle. There typical hot rod cams. Nothing more, nothing less.

Mike, can you find me a BBM Solid roller that works well with 2.45 gears?
(Not trying to be a dick here.)

So what did you red X me for?

What springs do you have or are you buying some? Do you have new lifters?

Not trying to be a smart ***, and I have always valued your opinion which is based on much more experience than I have with Mopars.
That being said what is going to "work well" with with 2.45s is relative I guess, I'm not saying to get a .700 /310°. Figured that there would be selections out there to suit his need.
I would think they would be able to grind something comparable to perform like the others listed. The main thing is staying away from hydraulic lifters period as I'm hearing about a lot of failures on this forum and others.

My suggestion is the smaller Summit cam.

If you thought you wanted something with more modern lobes and more lift, the Lunati 701 Voodoo looks like a decent fit.

Yes i have set of new summit lifters. Im unsure what springs are on the head. I was told i should be good to run them by one of my local mopar gearheads. But i may get new springs and retainers to be safe. Ill post the head thread link

Thanks Mike. I’m not trying to grill or roast you.

I see. Fair enough. For fun, search like the solid roller cam is for yourself within his parameters.

The cost of such an endeavor is quite pricey.
The Hyd. lifter issue is a problem for some. Maybe many. IDK. I’ve had Hyd lifters frozen up where I could not depress them with a hammer. Yup! Brand new in the box.
The only lifter I haven’t had a problem with is a simple solid lifter.

Back to the . “THEY will grind him a custom….”
I’m sure there are places that will do that. It’s an added cost and one that could sky rocket like max and more sonic they don’t have a core to grind from. It’s not like regrind I t a 5.9 Magnum cam. BBM’s simply never cam with a solid roller.

Let’s look at the Hughes cost vs a standard Comp. there’s about a $300 difference. The whole Hyd. Lifter kit is about the price of the roller cam by itself. The cost of roller tappets is also pricey.

It’s easy to recommend the top of the line.
It’s not always prudent or within the questioners wallet to follow the advice of someone who recommends the priciest option. No matter how wise or fool proof it may seem. Take his question and make it your own and ask yourself, “What would I do?” (And I have very little money.)
