Can anyone give me what the #5 journal should be on a 69 RB440. What I have been able to find it should be 1.4355-1.4365, the new Lunati cam I have is at 1.748. Needless to say won't even go in the block, everything else is dead on.

Thanks

Fred, I know this is gonna be a real stupid question, but are you sure you're puttin the right end in first? Remember, distributor drive gear in FRONT.

generally if the cam says it goes in that block it will generally fit.

The cams 5th journal should be 1.7480 to 1.7490".

The cam can also be bent. Set on V blocks at journal 1 and 5 and check 2, 3 and 4 with dial indicator.

Thanks for all the info, the numbers I found were wrong for #5. Unfortunately it was going in correctly, I wish the distributor was in the back, I know them. This one is starting to make me feel like its all voodoo and witchcraft....... Didn't think about checking for run-out, never ran into a bent one that wasn't blown up first. Looks like #5 is the issue still, cam is good but bearing is checking at 1.743. Car seemed to run good when I got it, was going to do a refresh while it was getting paint and found 3 damaged lobes and 5 collapsed lifters. Have to get with the shop on cam bore and bearings. Again thanks everyone for the info.

You should be able to dress that out with some really fine emery cloth. I'd do it in a heartbeat. BUT, what I would be more concerned with is that sometimes, you get a nick or gouge on the cam bearing bore that causes your issue. I would knock that number 5 out and inspect the bore very closely and go from there. Good luck.
