My uncle is redoing the #'s matching 383 to his 1969 4 speed roadrunner. He had to bore it out .030 and is using SpeedPro L2315NF pistons. The original camshaft is no good, so he wants something a little bigger to replace it. Staying with flat tappet hydraulic. Engine will have stock steel heads, HP manifolds, cast intake, but probably go with a 750 carb. Car is strictly a cruiser. Any recommendations on a camshaft that would be a little bigger than stock that would fit the bill? He was thinking something around .480-.500 lift.

I would base my selection on the engine compression ratio.

This worked very well on a mostly stock 383 ....but I'm no cam expert.

Isky 262 Supercam.
Unless you want lifter/lobe failure, have your factory lifters re-faced.
383/440 has the one of the highest Rod/stroke ratios of the big block engines. They do not tolerate lots of duration, which is why this warning is in a cam catalog.

Use recommended valve springs for whichever cam you choose.
Hughes Engines SER1620BL-12 would be good.
Sort of like the Howards Street Force 2 cam which looks good too.
