Can not locate the source of gasoline fumes on the interior of my 67

If anyone can give me some ideas I have missed I thank you in advance.

1967 Coronet 440 , 383 , when driving I at times get a strong raw gasoline smell inside the car.
the car can be full on fuel or 1/2 tank it makes no difference.

New tank and sender with correct seal, new vented cap , I have switched intake and carb new mech fuel pump, pcv is new, I have let it run up on the hoist and checked from the tank to pump for leaks,

these 67s have a fill vent from the tank to the filler tube its good and hose's back there are new when tank was switched. { the car had the same problem before the tank switch }.

I have replaced the pump to carb lines also.

The fumes are not there at every drive , just drives me nuts I cant locate the source.

When I fill either of the '67s there is inevitably fuel spilled. On the Satellite, if there were any rusted out spots on the left rear quarter then fuel could get into the rear quarter and who knows how long there might be fumes.
Fortunately for us, the body is in great shape!

Fortunately for us, the body is in great shape!

Thanks for the reply and taking a shot at it, but I does not seem to be tied to filling up.

Maybe coming through a hole in the firewall when the car is moving? That sounds like a tricky one, you have ruled out so many possibilities. If the hood-to-firewall seal is gone then engine smells can enter passenger compartment through the cowl.

My experience with raw gas odor has always been related to the rear of the car. Vent tube pointed forward. Gasket at fuel tank sender access. Can be more evident with window down. Kind of like the station wagon rear window exhaust fumes thing. Hope this helps and hope you find something. DCR

Consider weak or poorly adjusted floats, If you smell the odor when slowing down. My AVS floats would sink upon acceleration, , and upon slowing the excess fuel pump pressure would push fuel up and flow past the float needles because the floats were saturated. I would then smell the fuel vapor at a light. New floats fixed my problem.

lol Monaco, I tried a offy 360 dual quad and pair of 450 eddys once, but that's a hold my beer and watch this kinda story.

Im in Panora , aprox 90 miles west of you, I will be at Lincoln next weekend, { never miss it } sounds like the weather is going to be a little better for next weekend.

Check your exhaust for leaks. My 72 Coronet would smell really bad and not just a gas smell. After exhaust was replaced I don't get gas smell.

Monaco, its sunday the 8th at the Lancaster event center. 7:00 to 4:00
they use 4 or 5 of the big buildings plus outside spots if the weather is decent, otherwise its all indoors.

I had a pretty bad gas/exhaust smell in my Belvedere until I replaced the trunk seal. Like magic the smell and fumes were totally gone. Might be worth checking.

My 67 Dart did this on a cross country trip the wife and I did. Strong raw gas odor while driving. stopped several times found nothing. Checked for leaks everywhere during the trip,engine running or not.Ended up being the fuel pump.Would only leak during driving and the gas evaporated fast when checking for leaks and was never seen.Drove us nuts.After while it got worse that you could see it leak around the weep hole a few days later.Just a thought.

This sounds like a good candidate based on the OP's symptoms. I have an occasional under the same conditions. There is NO mistaking raw gas.

Had engine fumes coming into cabin and could not find the source. Installed the hood firewall seal today fumes gone. Again thanks 69Runner!

I had the exact same thing happen to me with my 73 Road Runner. New seal and the smell went away...

Thanks Darter6 , I changed it out last year but it was a napa recon pump, Its worth a look again , may have got a bad one.

Fuel pumps can do that, very logical!
