Can the front pump be pulled with out any other disassembly of the transmission? I have a leak in the front of my 727, and not sure if I should just put in a new front seal, or pull the pump, and replace the seal and gasket.

Yes, you should be able to remove just the pump for servicing.

Yep not a bad job either, buy quality American made parts! I use a pair of home made slide hammers to remove the front pump assembly, just make sure you put a new seal and bushing in for the converter too. I would recommend good trans grease/ lube for sliding it back in the case .

You need to tight down the front band. If you don't you'll have pile of parts unless you have trans vertical with bellhousing up. I'd do anyway, you just need to readjust band after reassembled easy to do.

You may call John Cope and ask for reference on brand or buy thru him or A&A trans, both a great builders. The only reason I say that is the know whose products are preferred.

If it’s still in the car then just do the seal, if you aren’t experienced with a torqueflight then there could be big problems, even with tightening the band. If that front clutch comes off of one friction plate it’ll be tough to know it and get it back on without having done it before. “Why won’t the pump go back on”

Easily done by an amatuer if the trans is standing on it tailhousing, not tail shaft.

PS: your wagon is still a favorite of mine!

Once the seal has been removed you can see the pump bushing with a flashlight. If its good you can just install the seal itself. If you question if the issue could be the pump bolt washers, pump O ring or pump gasket then remove the pump. Never had any issue with generic rebuild seals, gaskets, or bushings. I build quite a few.

I had to replace one when the guys who removed the engine of my car without removing the TQ.

Need to time travel 54 years. I imagine they hoisted it up so oil pan clear K- member. Wouldn't be any different than having a bellhousing on it. Plus no radiator in the car it stolen.
