I bought a carb that was advertised as a 4682 But when I got the carb it said 4966 which puts it as a 71 440 automatic carb according to the carb chart. But the guy insisted that it was a 4682 as per the tag. Which he forgot to put on the carb. Weird? Anyhow the carb needs to be rebuilt. But I guess my question is, is it possible for that 4682 tag to be on the correct carb even though it clearly says 4966 on the base? How can they tag a carb that was made in the future with a tag from the past? I think I got bamboozeled. But it was only 50 bucks.

Whatever is on the base is what it is !

That's what I thought. The guy was telling me the base doesn't matter. I was thinking if the base isn't correct then the carb isn't correct. No matter what tag is on it.
