Marcus Malone went to San Quentin in 69 and that was that. However, depending on the source, Marcus isn't even mentioned as one of the early members. No mater what this is a pretty cool story. http://news.kron4.com/features/exclusive-bay-area-music-legend-reunites-with-homeless-ex-bandmate/

And another bit of Santana trivia, my step dad's brother (uncle Ron Estrada) was very much a part of the early Santana band. He went to HS with Carlos and was the band's stage manager. I remember the day Ron came over with a fresh copy of "Carlos Santana and Buddy Miles live" album and handed it to my mom. I also remember as if it were yesterday being at a Christmas party at Ron's house in 1970. The whole band was there and one of the guys with the big afro tried to show me how to play the congas. I was 6 and pretty much wanted to go outside and play. If I only knew then what I know now.

Which only proves that Carlos was so high back then that he does't remember who played in his band.

That's an Awesome story!!!!!

I got one
My Neighbor "Skip" (not his real name) claims he was the Mixer dude for Journey 72-73 era
Back then they were playing in Hi schools, Garages, small venues right about same time Carlos left .

I don't know all the details he spits it out so fast I should know the story now Ive heard a few times but I don't have it memorized sorry.
I tried to get him to go see them when they were here last and try to hook up but he says no they wouldn't remember him been too long he thinks. I told him you follow guys like that around working for peanuts helping guys get some where and when they do get their they remember how they got their I told him but still he wont do it.

I think it would be cool for him to get a chance to do his job again in a big arena he would just love that.
Skip is a Music nut He would rather Jamb with them again over getting any amount of money don't get me wrong he could use some money but He just loves Music.

Sometime in 1982-83 I was visiting my best friend while on leave from the Navy, his aunt came by and brought Vinny Vincent from Kiss for dinner. She met him somehow while he was performing a concert tour and they hit it off but the romance didn't last long from what I can remember. I just thought it was funny to have a name like that, wasn't really into Kiss at the time.

What's the saying? Six degrees of separation? That everyone can link to someone famous through a few people they know? Here's mine.

Back in college, 1980, my roommate asked me if I wanted to go to a club with him one Saturday night, that a highschool friend of his is playing with his band and we can go backstage after and party with them. I was a pretty heavy Dead Head at the time, so I said nah, those Jersey garage bands suck. What was the guy's name? Jon Bon Jovi.

Truer words haven't been written. The reason we left that Christmas party early is because of the blatant use of illegal drugs (surprise).....and my step dad was a cop. Sometimes as a cop it's better to hear no evil and see no evil. I remember at one point, perhaps my HS years, Ron came over for a visit and the next day I found his heroin kit near the front door - dirty needles and some other stuff. He was still very connected to Carlos after his manager job. Uncle Ron died of complications due to drug addiction in the early 90's.

cool story Meeps, I had a friend Rob M. that was kind of close with Carlos {Eddy Money too, my cousin Mike E.'s best friend, he knew a bunch of Bay area rockers/musicians, Creedance CCWR guys too}, Rob's girlfriend Wendy "Bone's" IIRC was a contact/friend actually, I met him in Lafayette or maybe it was the Orinda/Moraga area in like 1979ish, interesting character... sounds like he's a good man now

Very cool. And speaking of Journey, I have known the brother of the guy that started Journey for many years. Herbie Herbert started Journey and his brother Bob was an old drag racer running anything that he could stuff a Cad engine into.

Eddie Money used to live in Lafayette on Moraga Rd. I drove by his house all the time when I worked at the grocery store in Moraga. Too funny. Never saw Eddie in the store though.

Cool stories that bring back some cloudy memories! :icon_weed:

Growing up in Upstate South Carolina in the 80s, I was fortunate to be friends and go to school with Cassidy Caldwell the daughter of Ty Caldwell of Marshall Tucker band, and Chris and Marshall Pyle who were the sons of former Lynyrd Skynyrd drummer Artimus Pyle. Many members of Skynyrd moved to around the Asheville area. I skateboarded back then and it's crazy to think now, but I skated in the basement of their tour manager Ron Eckerman's house in Bat Cave, NC (outside Asheville) and on the stage in the Charlotte Coliseum before a show on their first reunion tour in 1987. Even after their heyday, backstage passes and full access to a Lynyrd Skynyrd show was amazing.

Hey Meep I saw the story you are referring to. Very interesting stuff. Even cooler fact is that Mr. Santana went & met him on the street & confirmed his story. I wonder if he helped out his old friend that's down on his luck.
