CARTER fuel pump

Yes, it's similar to the Hemi High volume pump for dual quads. Eight screws on the underside.
you can rebuild it also!

You can rotate the bottom. When you take it apart look at the holes in the gasket. If they are oblonged, it should be replaced. Those pumps have been coming with heavy springs and putting out 9-10 psi jfyi.

One I have put out 11. I have a bypass regulator in my setup.

You need to preload the pump leaver before tightening the screws to keep the diaphragm from elongating the screw holes.

Rebuilding one is debatable. Finding a kit is almost impossible. Only one outfit that I know of can rebuild one and after that then you can rebuild it again.

Yeah, it really sucks that a guy has to send brand new Carter pumps off to get rebuilt. I had to do that on the last 3 I bought because I didn't want to run an external regulator.

It turned out to be a blessing for me. The regulator and bypass eliminated my vapor lock and fuel delivery problems. The car runs the same in 30 degrees as it does in 110.

i have been running the pump for a few years now. The car runs great, but to be honest i have never checked the fuel pressure.

The only reason for the original question, is that I am doing bit of an engine bay make over, and want to route my fuel line a bit different. Currently the out port basically aims at the front passenger headlight. Now that I a know it can be moved that will make my plumbing was easier.

You guys kind of have me wondering about the fuel PSI now, but... hey if its not broken don't fix right ??

Has anyone ever had fitment problems with those rebuildable pumps? I remember years ago, both a friend of mine and I bought these for our 440's through Mopar Performance, and the body was large enough that it would not bolt up, hitting the block. I now use the Carter 440 Six Pack pump, with no problems of too much fuel pressure.

What do ya expect from the company that makes FRAM filters?

Actually, that 6903 is the model with the biggest problem. I have switched over to this Edelbrock. They run at 5.5 psi.

I had to much pressure with the 4862 pump thats why I went with the 6903 which did the job. I wonder what the difference is between the 6903 and the 6900? The specs look identical at a quick look.

Looks like the 6900 is for a Chevy in the description posted by the op.

Didn't know that. Did they recently buy Fram, or just make filters for them?
