is there any way to tell with motor incar?

if it has a cast crank , it will have an "E" stamped on the ID pad , and that's only if the crank is original to the engine. other than the balancer , no
all cast cranks are externally balanced with the thick balancer. in most cases if not all , it is denoted on the balancer

You may be able to take the dust cover off the trans to look for a large balance weight on the torque convertor. But still if someone has done work...

The best is as was mentioned, pop the pan to know for absolute sure what crank you have.
